Might be on the cusp of solving one of histories mysteries

Most people, perhaps rightly, believe Sir Edmund Hillary was the first person to summit Mt Everest. Well he is certainly the first to summit and live to tell the tale, but , some people believe that George Mallory and Sandy Irvine may have been the actual first to summit, but die on the return years before in 1924. I have read several books on it and it's quite the interesting story. But one with little proof of success, until... soon? Perhaps?
.
It was always thought that if they found Mallory they might find proof in the camera he carried to document the event. Finally in 1999 they found Mallorys body but it did not have the elusive camera. It had many things a broken watch, glacier glasses, which he would have been wearing if he fell before summiting but were stowed in a pocket, clue perhaps? But it did not have the camera OR, a picture of his wife he promised to leave on the summit. I found this very interesting. But without the possible exposed film, no proof, perhaps Irvine, who was still missing, was carrying it since Mallory was in the more dangerous lead.

Well just recently Irvine was found, well Irvines foot was found, the sock was labeled but DNA will prove it. Maybe, just maybe they may find the rest of the body soon, and perhaps, the elusive camera.

Personally, I believe they made it and died on the way back. I believe the missing picture proves it. It was not in base camp, it was not in any summit camps, i believe Mallory did just as he promised her. Romantic idea, perhaps, but Mallory was a determined climber and last seen very close to the summit by one of thier party thru a telescope. One of his climbing partners said he believed Mallory did it, WHY? He was asked, because he was Mallory, lot of faith in the man's determination and ability...

Interesting story I would like to hear the end of, if it ends...

Mallory and Irvine, Mallory without the hat.

Very good read, thanks for posting

I wonder if Mrs. Clinton will change her name to Mallory. According to her she was named after an obscure beekeeper that no one ever heard of at the time of her birth. ;)
Very interesting story and more so if you look into the expeditions that tried and failed before.
Personally, I'm betting the first person to the top was some Tibetan boy that skipped out on doing his chores, and promptly got his backside warmed went he got home for not doing his cores and doing something that dumb in the first place.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
