A friend called the other day. He was looking for a target .22 handgun. After fleshing out his intended use, he's on a quest for a Springfield Armory TRP .45. He did get me thinking.

Would there be a market for a full size TRP .22LR?

My TRP's accuracy exceeds my accuracy. Just a guess: tricked out 1911-A1 target guns can't be much more accurate than a Springfield Armory TRP.

A TRP .22 LR would be a blast to shoot. Since it would function identically as a TRP .45, it wouldn't screw up conditioned response.

I have a Browning 1911-22. It's an excellent handgun. It functions identically to a 1911-A1. But it's a very small handgun. It's more of a plinking gun. It's not a target gun. A TRP .22 would be a target gun. It'd be suitable for taking small game and pests.

BTW, if Springfield Armory were to determine a viable market exists for a full size TRP .22 LR, I'd prefer it to be identical in size and weight to a 1911-A1 TRP. The intent would be a shooter could switch guns without adjustments.

I have no clue whether such a handgun could be engineered. If it is possible, I'd buy one.

Buy a Kimber/Marvel/etc conversion kit.

Much cheaper that way; I run one on a Norinco frame that I dropped C&S fire control parts into...dings the 50 yard gongs all day reliably, if I’m doing my part.
