N.C. sheriff gets too personal for a ccw permit/license

Old_Me

SAINT
some time ago, i spoke of the city near me, wanting mental evals of ccw applicants....you sign the waivers of nearly ALL the mental hospitals in my state, and that city contacts them for any mental eval on you..

well, seems like a sheriff in NC is doing nearly the same thing, down to if a woman has a "c-section" to anyone that has or had an STD.....!!!

here is the video, of what i just saw.

here in nj for each handgun you purchase you need a permit. part of the permitting process includes signing off on a mental health waiver that allows local law enforcement to confirm that the the person seeking the permit has not been institutionalized. same goes for the ccw application.

I live in North Carolina. We have to sign-off for our local sheriffs to check any records at the state's mental health hospitals and provide the name/address of our primary care doctor along with all the other background check stuff in order to get our concealed carry permit. I haven't been to a private practice doctor since I was a teenager. The few times I've been in the last 40 years, it's always been urgent care. When I applied for my permit, I just put down a doctor from my insurance list. Nothing was said. While we have to include that information, I think it's rarely checked. This one sheriff might be an anomaly. Not that it's right in the first place. Also remember that up until a couple years ago, we still had Jim Crow pistol purchase permits that technically allowed the local sheriff to deny your right to buy a pistol.

I can understand checking to see if a person has a history of serious mental health issues. But just about everybody is a little crazy these days. Lots of perfectly normal people see therapist to help with dealing with day to day issues.

What has your physical health got to do with it? Hell, those of us that have physical issues are the ones who need to carry. We often appear to be easy targets just by the way we move. And I know that there's no way I'd win a fist fight with a much younger assailant.
Too old to fight
Too tired to run
I'll just shoot you and be done with it.

thing is, we all know many people lie on the 4473 form....so all one has to say they never did time in a mental ward, and BAM, they get a gun and a permit.

so this at least cuts down on some of the liars.

but yes, it still to me, violates people's' privacy.

what next....??

"are you circumcised"...????

like me, after 4 major back surgeries, i too cannot run, jump fences, or fight fist to cuffs...

hell, a chihuahua could outrun me and attack me.

and (minus the chihuahua comment) that's what i put down on my permit application, the operations and inability to defend myself...

and got my permit on the first try.

which is due to be renewed before June, and i don't need to show any reason why, i only need to type up a letter telling them how it will be secured as i carry it...

this "might be" my last ccw permit anyways.

I've been warning people of this for years. Got a disability for PTSD? Note I am NOT claiming PTSD isn't real. I personally know two people that were big hunters and sportsmen that lost their right to own a firearm because of IMO questionable PTSD disabilities. More "Red Flagg" B.S.

Didn’t Governor Stein, when he was acting AG, direct Sheriffs Departments in NC to issue handgun permits to individuals that were 18 years of age even though they did not qualify Federally (21)?
At least that is what I have heard.

now this part may be of interest.....if many recall, the Governor of N.M. called guns a "Public Health Emergency" or something like that..???

that may be the reason why some police depts are now requesting mental health information.....if THAT state, declared that guns are a "Health Emergency"...??

here is what i was mentioning...

In September 2023, New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) declared gun violence in Albuquerque and the surrounding Bernalillo County a public health emergency, mirroring similar declarations during the COVID-19 pandemic.May 21, 2024

Why don’t they add that info to your drivers license along with height, weight, and
eye color.
