This might be picky, but, I think the National weather service needs someone with a bit more practical winter experience writing thier storm warnings, at least here in the Detroit office.
After giving the general winter storm warning information they give the standard warning against driving due to ice and possible snow build up.
Then they write, if you absolutely must drive make sure to carry food, water , and a flashlight. This is winter in Michigan, and the winter storm is starting with rain and ice then switching to wet snow. You will get wet if you are out in the weather at all. In the survival advice there is nothing about dry clothing, coats, boots, blankets or even cell phone
You are more likely to die of hypothermia if stranded without winter clothes, boots, blankets etc. than you are of starvation, or thirst.
Yeah most people think of these things here in Michigan. But, if you are going to take the time to warn the uninformed, do it correctly.
