Need actual size of the 5" Garrison firing pin

I need a replacement firing pin and stop plate for my 5" Garrison 45 stainless 1911. The oem titanium pin was damaged when the stop plate wouldn't seat properly sending the firing pin into the side of my tool chest. I am tired of waiting for the 'next available representative' only to be disconnected. I've sent a message to SA but received no response back yet.

The aftermarket shows several sizes of 1911 firing pins for 45. SA apparently using a different size firing pin than most other 1911 manufacturers (.65", .75", .90", etc). Does anybody with a 5" 45 Garrison know the size?

It should be the same, never heard that they used a different sized one, when I got mine for the Mil Spec I just got one from Wilson and for my Range Officer in 9 mm I again just picked up one from Wilson but the 9mm one.

SA apparently uses a titanium firing pin and stronger spring to prevent an accidental discharge if the pistol were dropped. CA requires a component to prevent an AD in case the pistol falls causing the muzzle to strike the ground and the firing pin to strike the primer.

Instead of complicating the simple design with an unnecessary additional component, SA figured the titanium pin and stronger spring would accomplish the same goal whereas a steel firing pin and standard spring would have enough inertia to strike the primer if the muzzle struck the ground. In doing so SA reportedly uses a smaller tip firing pin.

Most of the threads I've been reading are a little old. Wilson, Brown and others have the firing pins in steel and titanium but suggest SA usually uses a .75" pin. What year is your Mil-Spec? Do you recall the size or part number for the firing pin? Thanks.

Go to SA site, then go to store. Select firearm accessories. Select 1911 accessories. On the second page of 1911 accessories you will find pin shown in attachment. Dont see stop plate tho. Hope this helps.

From the product overview of the Wilson/Midway website:

Average diameter of 1911 .45 caliber firing pins is .095"-.096" at tip. Average diameter of 1911 .38 Super and 9mm caliber firing pins is .070"-.071" at tip. If the firing pin caliber needed is not known, check the hole size in the recoil face to determine the caliber firing pin needed for your slide before ordering. Will not fit Springfield Armory 1911's.

Wow, news to me, I’ll have to check if the one I got works, if not I’ll fit it, no big deal, I usually don’t read that stuff, I have always used these in the past as spares, sorry

That's the one I've zeroed in on but would like confirmation. So you didn't install the Wilson firing pin in your Mil-Spec yet?

I don't have a digital caliper, ordered but won't be delivered for a few days. I'll measure my damaged pin then.

No I haven’t, but I have several other 1911’s, Kimber, Colt, Garson, they use no specific size, I’ll probably just get one from Springfield to play it safe, anyway thanks for the heads up on the pin sizes, never realized that

What does the primer end of your firing pin measure?

Most 1911 45 firing pins are FIRING PIN TIP DIAMETER - HD-210 IS .091"
38 super / 9mm are usually FIRING PIN TIP DIAMETER - HD-211 is .068"

I believe Springfield uses a different diameter firing pin diameter even in the 45 1911 (at least in the last several years)

Harrison Custom offers all the sizes.
They also have firing pin stops (oversize) for several GI and different rear site cuts available.

This firing pin is for Springfield pistols made in recent years. Measure the diameter of your firing pin at the tip and make your selection based on that.

FIRING PIN TIP DIAMETER - HD-212 is .075"

Overall Length 2.295"

NOTE - This firing pin is NOT correct for any of the Springfield EMP pistols
