I attended a heavy weapons instructor course in 1971 which included 90mm recoilless rifle and LAWs. It was the assistant gunner's job to be sure no friendlies were in the blast area. In training we posted safety officers on both flanks of the gunner to be sure no friendlies wandered into the cone. The blast is epic. When I fired the 90 from prone it lifted me off the ground a bit. Good medicine for bad guys who get into one of your bunkers.

I fired the 90mm also and had the same experience. Yowza!

I fired a LAW once in basic training. I remember seeing a safety video about it once and they showed a guy who had been in the back blast area. I don't know how far back he was but he wasn't dead but his face was burnt

The Gustav M4 RRs has a round counter for the gunner to protect them from concussions from firing them.
