Wow, amazing to find ANY right now, appreciate you hunting and finding that. Itβs tempting...Welcome to the forum! @PaulieDC
Since someone did this for me and caused me to buy another firearm... in stock.
SPRINGFIELD 1911 RANGE OFFICER 45ACP 4' LW CHAMP
<p>Springfield Armory's Range Officer Champion pistol is an ideal fit for those looking for a concealable 1911 that won't weigh them down. It features a 4' stainless steel match grade barrel with a black parkerized finish, a lightweight forged aluminum alloy frame, and fiber optic front and a...www.nwarmory.com
SERIOUSLY good info.Springfield pretty much universally, to the best of my knowledge, refers to their ported pistols as a βV(X)β, where X is the number of ports...usually V8, V10, and I think they even made a V16 long slide model 1911.
And the reason CCI says not to use that ammo is because itβs a plated bullet; plated bullets tend to shave fragments when the hit the ports, and vent them like tiny bits of shrapnel...not fun.

Thats a buddy of mine shooting a ported Performance Center Shield 9mm...you can imagine if chunks of metal were flying out of there...
Wo HO, nice bass rig! You're not kidding when you say stellar tone. My bass player back in the 80s had a Rick and was a huge Geddy Lee fan of course, thing sounded great WITHOUT an amp, then you plug it in and the rest is history.Another player on the forum. FANTASTIC.
I'm a bass player for over 40 years now but I spend a lot of time on guitar too.
For acoustic wood is definitely important. I don't fuss too much with acoustic guitars as far as strings. In fact my main beater acoustic has slinkys on it right now.
Basses are another story. What I lack in talent I make up for with stellar tone. Main rig is a 1989 SVT II non Pro with Winged SED power tubes and NOS preamp tubes, paired with a 2006 SLM Ampeg 810. Running a stock 1974 Rickenbacker 4001 with Rotosound Swing bass 66 SS rounds and a 2015 Spector NS4 with D'addario ELX170s.

FWIW, I've tried a ton of brands on my Taylor but Elixir Phosphor Bronze just work. Guess it's like finding the ammo that makes misfires an oddity.
Hate to do this to you guys, but going back to the original topic, what's the advantage of a ported barrel? I know, no fun, a serious question... my apologies.

Keeps the barrel flat in recoil; the gas jetting up out of the ports keeps the muzzle from rising, puts you back on target faster.
I ran my buddyβs PC Shield 9 (pictured earlier) next to a regular Shield on a timer...doing Bill Drills, which is 6 shots in the βAβ zone (we use a 6β paper plate) at seven yards as fast as you can...any shot off the plate is a miss, and therefore a failure (to be paid in beers for the table after shooting).
The ported Shield would usually shave close to a second off my time...so thereβs something to it.
I get what youβre saying, but...I shaved about .15 (average) seconds off my splits with the ported barrel...and thatβs a LONG time, relatively speaking (my splits with my RO, when Iβm pushing to the edge, are usually .18-.20 seconds).Might make some sense in a competition gun with a longer barrel. Just the physics and the location of the ports means the ported barrel on the Shield has minimal positive effect.
We are all still here, are you in KY? There are a few of us from the commonwealth on the forum. What range do you use if you donβt mind me asking.FWIW, scored my long-awaited SA 1911 yesterday thanks to gun.deals... found it in stock at a dealer in Bardstown, KY. Worth the three-month wait, really wanted that exact model and now wanted it before Inauguration Day. Hopefully will see it at my dealer in two weeks. Anyhoo, thanks for all the info back when this thread was active.
And a few of us from the other three commonwealths as well. Pennsylvania (Me, @adam sr, others), Massachusetts (@jmcd, @10mmLife (before they exiled him )), Virginia. We are all still here, are you in KY? Oh, my apologies, it does sound like I found the firearm locally... it's an online purchase, I'm in the used-to-be -wild west, Arizona. I'm having it shipped to my local friendly FFL dealer. I do visit KY once a year or so though, lol... I do photo work for the Ark Encounter there in Williamstown. I shoot a Canon quite often but haven't visited a range there. We are all still here, are you in KY? There are a few of us from the commonwealth on the forum. Nice RO, I picked up one awhile back, mine is in 9mm.Whoomp, there it is... (took this at the FFL Dealer while paperwork was processing). Range Officer. I'm over the moon.

Anyone familiar with GOOD videos on YouTube where I can learn all the little intricacies of a 1911? And a source for 230 gr FMJ would be great too! Only have a couple hundred rounds at the moment.
