That's why I stained the checkering black. The idiots should have checkered 1st.I can tell by looking at that picture that they are press checkering by using the hot plate method, to bad; cut checkering would be more work but would leave the beauty of the black laminate stock layers instead of the burnt wood look.
Still all in all a beautiful rifle.
Cut checkering laminated wood is difficult because you have to use high speed Carbide cutters and go slow with your step over travel rate or you will get chip outs. However it can be successfully done and when done right it leaves a beautiful cut pattern built into the laminated layers. That's why I stained the checkering black. Very sweet TexasI updated mine, but wish it was threaded for a brake/suppressor! Changed the trigger, loading gate, added leather, new handguard, quivers, takedown screws, bear proof ejector (from wwg) and a handstop/grip.
I like that they added muzzle threads. The marlin has the sight too close to the end and the mag tube doesn't give enough room with the sight removed. Bummer! Might need to go on the Marlin talk site for possible barrel swap.I think Ruger Marlin has taken the 1895 to a new higher level.
Just to give some quick info: blind magazine fed lever action designed to shoot spitzers (pointed bullets). Invented by the great John Moses BrowningPersonally I'm in love with the Winchester 1895. My LGS has one for $1500 and it's almost worth the 3 weeks of fighting with the girlfriend and sleeping with the dogs (not my photo)View attachment 25807
I want to comment on that guy who wrote the article about the original Marlin employees making garbage guns before Remington bought the company and turned it around however everyone has their opinion, I was there during that time and he is so wrong.
99.9% of gun writers are wrong. It’s almost exclusively opinions being touted as facts. It has gotten better in some ways over the last decade, but it’s also gotten worse.I want to comment on that guy who wrote the article about the original Marlin employees making garbage guns before Remington bought the company and turned it around however everyone has their opinion, I was there during that time and he is so wrong.
The whole writer's premise was based on a disgruntled worker,.......99.9% of gun writers are wrong. It’s almost exclusively opinions being touted as facts. It has gotten better in some ways over the last decade, but it’s also gotten worse.
Probably disgruntled because of Remington taken over, there were a lot of very unhappy employees during the time Remington started to take over, continued to lie about there intention on not moving the company then announcing they were shutting the plant and moving everything to NY.The whole writer's premise was based on a disgruntled worker,.......
