Yeah, it’s kind of low on my list, although both my 45s haven’t had any problems as of yet.

Almost reminds me of a similar build up to a new product release a while back when Springfield Armory was leaking news about the new Eschelon. I'm sure we all remember how the leaked information was removed until after its release.;)

Your guess is as good as mine.

I'm thinking that since S&W recently came out with their folding 9mm carbine, and it seems to be selling well, they're just expanding their lineup of pistol caliber carbines.

I'm not aware of any changes to the M&P15 line, but S&W does tweak their offerings every so often, so who knows?

Yes RLB, fits the description and guess of my source that indicated a rifle sized barrel firearm in 9mm. I guess S&W has this competing with SA’s 9mm carbine and others. I’m a bit surprised as I already have their FPC (along with an Sig MPX carbine and Ruger tactical carbine), so I’m not sure how interested I’ll be in it (I’ll have to check it out though). I did handle the SA 9mm carbine which I found to be well made, but again, I already have several other makes. It’s good that there’s choices though. I did sign up for their virtual announcement & tour of their new headquarters (and other topics), occurring on the 18th, so that should be fun.
