New Smith and Wesson Bullpup Shotgun

Yeah, I got the email from S&W on this as well. Plus Anni (@Annihilator), posted about this in a previous thread. Pretty neat video, but I’m not a real Bullpup fan (as of yet 😆).

Definitely has the cool badass factor going for it but I'm kinda a traditionalist myself when it comes to pump guns and I prefer a good old fashioned tube fed tactical style shotgun.

I tried a KSG and KS7 and while they were compact they really didn't work for me so I got rid of them, and went back to traditional tactical shotguns.
I like the KSG 25 but not for home defense. Mine is utterly reliable and as the name suggests, holds 25 rounds. Pretty good candidate for a SHTF gun outside the house. The one close to me when I’m at home is a pedestrian, 8 rd. Mossberg 500 with a 20” barrel and collapsible stock. Hopefully soon to be augmented by a Benelli M1014.
The TS-12 is certainly more suited to CQB/HD than a KSG and after extensive range time to confirm reliability and train myself to manipulate it rapidly it has a role to play in my over all security plan.

As for this new S&W bullpup, I think they got in to the game too late. It’s probably violating some Kel-Tec patents and it is more expensive. If they had put it out before KT It would have sold very well. I think it may appeal to some people who consider the Kel-Tec brand to be low rent and below them. Which is fine as long as the gun is reliable.

In the end I agree with you. Most of these guns are fun and have the cool factor, but when it gets down to actually doing the work I’m going to stick with the real stuff.

Reminds me a lot of the Keltec KS7. And they're both really ugly !!! ;):):):)

As an aside, my wife wants a KS7 in a bad way. I don't have a clue what the hell for. But I'm afraid I see a Christmas present request coming !!!
I would buy a KS7 before I would buy this M&P. It’s smaller and lighter. I think S&W would have been on to something if they had designed a reliable semi auto this size.

The ksg can only be loaded 1 shell at a time, the standard mfg can load 2 at a time since it doesn't have the switch between the tubes. It chambers 2 at a time and 2 trigger pulls for both tubes to be fired. Rack again and 2 more ready. It does take muscle memory for sure and doesn't let you rack until both tubes are shot. You can release the action in front of the trigger guard if need be? Neither are good guns, but work well enough! BTW those mini-shots are horrible in either gun as far as cycling anything less the flat. I'm not a big shotty person and only own 2, but I like those 300" 🥴 barrels for knocking down quail! Those that my dad bought back in the '60s still work fine for me. Would I buy a s&w 12? Possibly? I might need a door propped open and it might be a good gun?

Those mini shells run fine in mine and plenty of other people report no problems running them in regular KSGs.

Saying they aren't "Good" guns is a stretch as well. Sure it's not a Benelli, but I have upwards of 2000 trouble free rounds through the KSG25. I have no idea about the DP12, I'm not a fan of the concept so I never tried one. I don't worry about reloading with mine. If you need more than 25 rounds you got way bigger problems than can be solved by loading a shotgun.

The people who have problems with KSGs simply don't know how to run them or they don't train with the weapon. The popular saying is, " Rack it like you hate it", which is stupid and a good way to break ****.

If you gave me a choice between the new Smith and my KSG25, I'll stick with my KSG25. Now when they design a reliable semi auto with the same footprint for under $1000 they might have my attention.

While both shotguns are new to me and are more familiar with traditional type of either semi or pump which I've had no more than 300 rounds fire over a 40 year period. I will say most likely the problem is mine? Those mini shot just didn't catch me as good cycling compared to the 2 3/4 or 3" with either gun. The KSG ran them better than the std mfg. I've never had a "great" shotgun, just good ones, but wish the 2 I have were semi auto opposed to pump. The std mfg takes more training than the ksg and even more that there are certain angles it might not feed well. That's where the ksg is better. None have had a fte, but the ftf is more of a hang than just not feeding at all (std mfg). Then again, I don't train or shoot either of them much maybe if I reloaded shotties it would be a different story? This is maybe why I use the term good or not so good instead of great about either gun?

I put in the work with the KSG and it is a reliable shotgun. I certainly wouldn't classify it as a "Great" shotgun though. It does fill a very specific and highly improbable role. As you can imagine, an already heavy shotgun loaded with a full box of shells becomes very heavy. Even with a Vickers sling I wouldn't want to carry it around all day and it wouldn't be a shotgun I would bee line for in a home break in type scenario. In reality it's a fun range toy. If I don't have my Benelli by the time the shotgun courses come up later this year I'll be using the 500 for those. I have a bunch of 5 and 7 round Esstac cards en route to me as we speak.
