Being a smooth bore I expect that recoil would not be any worst than shooting a .338 Winchester mag. To repel borders I wouldn’t be surprised if the barrels weren’t loaded with buck and ball or a load of buck shot.
 
Basically, a shoulder-fired "mitrailleuse". The typical arrangement allowing for both volley fire or sequential fire on the "crew served" version. The cases collect in the bottom and new "trays" of fresh ammo loaded after firing. This one in Bucharest, Romania could be fired both ways. Depending on the country, these, like Gatling guns, might be classified as an artillery weapon.
