And now for the rest of the story...

I was in Honors U.S. History my junior year of high school and my teacher was great, he was one of those that enjoyed his subject, and was still a student of it, not just a teacher.
When we got to the WWII Era, he, and I were the only ones that knew about this, other than the history book.

My Dad used to say "Nuts" all the time as a mild expletive, like you'd say "Well, shucks," or "Aw heck" or something like that. I never thought anything about it and just assumed it was something people of his age said. Come to think of it, I don't believe I ever heard anyone else say it, but he did. I wonder if, as a boy, he'd heard/was inspired by the McAuliffe story? Wish I'd asked him about it, but too late now. Aw shucks oh well.
