One hand shooting

Every instructor course I ever attended when the instructor made us go to non-gun hand: "Somebody get a rope!".

Joking aside, it is an essential skill. I have a lifelong friend who is truly ambidextrous and it matters not which hand he uses. I envy this ability. Although I am pretty handy with a steak knife in my left hand....

I use the one-hand technique where I tuck the revolver barrel in my belt after dumping empties and use my 6-pack to hold the cylinder open while reloading. I have an advantage with my tactical cushion that covers my abs. It has taken many years to develop that cushion and I intend to use it.

I think one handed shooting(with either hand) is a good skill to practice.

I do quite a bit of training with a knife (Escrima - Filipino Martial Arts) for close range and medium range situations, but I also sometimes practice deploying a handgun at close range.

I also sometimes do drills where my dominant hand is injured and I have to manipulate my handgun with my weak hand. You quickly figure out which firearms work better with this type of training (S&W J-Frame, or similar handgun, as a back up firearm...:))

This kind of training is humbling for me, but also very important, because as we age (I'm 65) being able to do common tasks with either hand, is an underrated skill.

What happens when you run the mag dry and there is still a threat?

I do almost all my shooting one handed. I expect to be using my other hand for other things. Like grabbing the Mrs. and throwing her to the floor so she don't stand there like a B-27 silhouette target or knocking crap out of the way, opening doors, etc. of our exit of the A.O. or other such stuff.

I understand completely. Not long after we were married, we had a 3 AM "pounding on the door" episode. Turned out to be nothing--someone looking for the former resident--but when I pulled out the 1911 from under the mattress to investigate, The Lovely Mrs. Snake pretty much completely freaked out and refused to calm down, and after it was all over, I distinctly remember thinking, "Damn, if we ever had a REAL emergency, my best course of action might be to shoot HER first."

That was a long time ago. Today I'm not sure goblins kicking down the door would even wake her up.:LOL::LOL:
