While taking the optic cover plate off my XD Mod 3 slide to put on the plate and a Holosun HS507C X2 I felt the 3rd little screw start slipping in my fingers. So I quickly moved my legs so I could see the direction the screw goes. Wouldn't you know it ... that leg motion, that was supposed to help me see the screw, kicked the little sucker across the floor and right into the floor vent. That little guy is gone FOREVER. 🤣🤣🤣

Glad they make new ones every day!

That will teach me to be sitting in the family room watching TV while tinkering with a gun ... yea, right!
😯😲🙄

I've been really lucky with small bits and springs that fly around. I work in the garage with cabinets with gaps underneath and some massive cracks in the floor. It gets the heart pounding.
my basement floor where the gun cleaning gets done, is plank wood, with gaps too.

i use a long reach mechanics magnet.

however one gun in particular that i use and clean, the RIA .22 magnum

it has this tiny pin that locks the inner barrel to the outer barrel or what ever its called...

and here is how it is located..

if i lose that pin, i am so screwed..and yes...when i first got the gun, that spring loaded tiny pin took flight...twice.

(the spring is wedged inside the outer barrel pilot hole)

i now disassemble and clean and lube that gun, in a large ziplock bag

Called CS this morning and a nice fella Dominick is mailing me a couple cover plate screws. Let me see if my fat little fingers can hold onto these ones. 😅

Always a good experience with SA CS!

you reminded me...well my wife read this and reminded me of an OOPS at the shotgun range a few years ago
i had a 12 ga ithaca old shotgun from my late grand dad
wanted to run it and see how the old girl was..

anywho the inerds that held the spring and shells got jammed up and i couldn't get the shells to pop out the way they went in, so i unscrewed the cap thing to remove the spring and the jammed up cartridge in the magazine...yes the breach was open and no shell.
i let go of the cap just as it ran out of threads and WHOOSH like a coiled up prank snake in a can the spring shot out.
i was standing under a pine tree and the ground was that nice color or spring brown pine needles and i could not find the spring.

a few weeks go by and member posted on the forum they had found the spring or a spring hanging in the pine tree about 20 feet up

yup it was my spring, not a bit more rusty
