Opinions on Ammo Stocking Policies

After months of what looked like the same people lining up outside the door every morning to buy ammo, and leaving nothing for the rest of us who have a traditional work schedule, my local Academy has decided to try and spread the wealth a little bit. They are now stocking ammo at several different times throughout the day, instead of loading everything overnight. Because of the new system, I was finally able to buy some .223 last night. I really appreciate this, but I was wondering how everyone else feels. Do you think this is a good way to deter hoarders, or are most of the people waiting in lines in the morning just normal customers who are trying to get some ammo for personal use?

Hey, if it works, that’s great, I honestly can’t stand anybody who hoards anything......you know yourself they will never use it, they just buy it so they can make money selling it there selves. I think your local Academy has the right ideal, glad you got your .223 ammo.

I like the idea, but the masses will figure it out and just go back several times a day.

I was always surprised that hoarders were not deterred by the 3-box limit for popular calibers. How much profit can you possibly make at a rate of 3 boxes per day per caliber? Some of the stores were even limiting shoppers to 5 total boxes combined per day. With morning lines wrapped around every store, every individual could only visit one store per day before all the other stores were out-of-stock. Am I missing something about how these guys made money?

I guess when you buy for 15-17 then sell for 40 (online pricing at many places) its not a bad ROI. Last time I just happen To be at my LGS they had ammo there and a 5 box limit in general so I grabbed some 9mm. If I sold those 5 boxes for 39.99 i would net a bit over $100 dollars. I dont have that much ammo, nor want to take the time to do that...

Noticed some side deals happening whereas a case of 9mm was sold off on the side between buddies (store employee and customer).. Maybe I am being overly suspicious but the sign did say 5 boxes per day... at least toilet paper is abundant now...

I'm not a hoarder but I do like to have a lot of ammo on hand. If I find a new box of ammo I have to have it for my collection mainly 40 S&W. I do like to have a 1000 or more round for each 9mm, 40 S&W, 45 ACP and now starting to build up 10mm in handgun and 2000 or more in AR's and AK rounds. But now I will buy it if I can find it.

I take a similar approach. I have been curious about both the XDM 10mm and the Hi-Point 10mm Carbine, but am hesitant to take on a new cartridge because I like to keep 2500 rounds in reserve for every caliber I own. The only exception to my rule is primarily hunting cartridges that I never really target shoot or plink with. Eventually I would like to have that much 30-30 in reserve, but the only gun I have chambered in 30-30 is my Mossberg 464 and it is reserved for rare hunting duties. If I want to have fun with a lever-gun I run 38 Specials through my Marlin 1894C, or at least I did when .38 Specials could be found on the shelf at big box stores.

Get the XDM in 10mm. I just got mine. Never shot a 10mm before but I love it in the XD. I was going to get a 1911 10mm but went with the XD instead. Glad I did it hold way more rounds.

Piling onto the ammo pandemic stories...today I get an alert that my Speer order of 10 boxes of 124 grain 9mm ship from swfa.com. Huh? I go to the site and look.

I placed a back order in JUNE and it shipped today. I guess I should be happy as I paid 13.95 a box and they did not cancel my order on me. Should be here this weekend. Just in time for range time.

I do not hoard ammo, when I was a kid growing up, my father told me to buy 1 box of ammo every payday. I took his advice and I'm sure happy I did.

Got 250 rds of 9mm FMJ (5 bx limit @$13.99 ea) & a 500 rd brick of 22lr (no limit - $29.99 ea.) at my local Cabelas today.

The 9mm was a substitute for the Tula, as well as the .22lr, expended recently.
