Oreshnik missile?

I've been having this exact argument with some tool on a musicians forum who is under the impression that Russia is the world's premiere military force now.

Couple salient points.

All ballistic missiles are hypersonic. The new tech Putin is over exaggerating the significance of is the delivery system.

The US has hypersonic missiles and is currently outfitting Navy Destroyers to deliver them.

The main guy stirring up all the shite about them here is a dude named Postol, a so-called expert who has a lengthy track record of attacking US missile capability and clearly has an axe to grind.

They aren't even sure whatever it was Putin fired at Ukraine the other day was in fact one of these missiles.

Putin has a lengthy track record of over exaggerating Russia's military capabilities.

The Russians are using cold war BS, they aren't even the premiere military in Europe.

If they had an effective military their most minimal objectives in Ukraine would have been realized extremely quickly.

We know exectly what it was and Putin showed his hand on a missle we didnt have a lot of intel on.
It did very little damage with its conventional MRV’s.
The west now has parts from the wreckage that will tell us a lot anout their missle program.

Hi,

Yes, it is a delivery system that is rumored to travel at Mach 10, fast enough to avoid interception by missile defense. It could carry nukes. At this time the thinking is that it can not reach the U.S. Let's hope Putin can't afford mass production and all the specs are exaggerated.

Has our military been quiet about our capabilities in this area?

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

It also reportedly was targeted in an area that Patriot wasn’t covering.

Think about it. If it was that good…why would they avoid SAM coverage?

Dont get duped. Putin and his capabilities are lacking

Let me see. 1991 the USA took on the 4th largest military in the world, routed and defeated them totally in what, one week? Russia took one what was a military less than 1/4 the size of theirs and nearly 3 years (and 3/4 million casualties) later are still fighting? Not to mention that debacle right outside of Kiev when it first started. One single squadron of A10’s would have destroyed that whole column in a few minutes-limiting factor being they’d have to keep landing and rearming because of such a target rich environment.

By the bye: both Patriot and SM6 have intercepted orbital ballistic targets…which are a metric F-ton faster than Mach 10.

You mean the Zumwalt class are actually getting a “working” weapons system? Dang, what a concept! Y’all will remember these “Uber destroyers” were originally intended to use their super dooperhigh tech extended range cannon for fire support for Marine landings, replacing the Iowa class Battleships for that role😳, cause the Iowa’s were “too expensive”. So they built Three (instead of the 36 planned) because they ran WAY over budget. And then the rounds for the “extended range” 5” guns went to about $1 million/round, so the Navy didn’t buy any and these pos “wunderwaffe” never had operational main weapons. (Makes you wonder how many years the Iowa’s could have remaking in service for the obscene amount of $$$ wasted on the Zumwalt’s and the “littoral” combat ships that are being pulled from service a decade after they were commissioned….

YEP thats them
what a boon doggle almost as bad as the littoral patrol boats

no no no fellas. Those that are responsible for such things are not morons nor will they be punished. They will be rewarded. Handsomely. As difficult as it may be to grasp, the point isn't to make reasonably priced gear for the military. It is rather to make outrageously overpriced and unworkable equipment, then get congress to approve our money to pay for it. Stupid should hurt, but truth stings. :(

and retired uppers get cushy jobs at the defense contractors despite fed law restricting such practices...but as in all laws there are loopholes... those people are the ones we do not need
the littoral ships were a screw job even before the cocktail napkin drawing was dry
bad leadership , then the follow through
