Nice article, I had one several years ago, 1947 all Springfield, it was refinished, took any collector value away, just kept getting thumb smashed, I never learned....lol

I like all mine. Still have my first DCM Springfield I got when I shot on my University's rifle team back in the 80's.

At that time it was once in a life time. CMP loosened up in the 90's/2000's so there was no limit, and I picked up more mainly from the North Store in Ohio.

Have examples from all the US manufacturers.

Mine came from CMP accordingly to the previous owner, I gave mine to my nephew, he still has it and loves it, he likes anything from WWII.

The North Store doesn't have the selection they did have from around 2012 and earlier.

Still an emotional experience seeing many racks of M1s.

Last time I was there was last spring.

I keep the knife edge of my hand on the bolt handle until I'm ready to release it. I haven't had M1 thumb in years. I have an original 1943 Springfield. It's a beautiful rifle.
