Not really; smart, actually, on a carry handgun for the majority of people (ie, those that aren’t of the sinister bent).
Personally, as far as 1911’s go (and the HP being very similar) I prefer NOT to have an ambi safety—they can get bumped off accidentally a lot easier than a single-side.
And here’s the really cool thing—if you WANT an ambi safety? They make them. Just fit it in.
