+P .45 Ammo

You should at the very least put a heavier recoil spring in the pistol if you're going to be feeding it a steady diet of +P.

In many cases, +P doesn't necessarily have better terminal performance and/or expansion than regular .45 ACP. So unless you have a chosen round that you know for a fact is going to offer a real, proven performance advantage, I'd just stick with standard pressure loads

I use .45+P 255 grain BB hardcast rounds thru a 5” 1911.
Only on hogs. Leave a nice big big hole like a shotgun slug.
I do not shoot many rounds of it though. Usually only 1-2 at a hog and infrequently .
Have had no issue thus far.
Prob 20 rounds total over a year

More recoil, no better terminal performance…don’t see the point.

Also, in a shorter barrel, you won’t get as much velocity gain out if that +P; you’ll just get a lot more muzzle flash.

Definitely a case of diminishing returns.

When I carried a snub .45 1911-a Colt New Agent—I carried 230gr exclusively.

That being said—yeah, it’ll handle +P. If you shout a lot of it, you may want to beef up your recoil & mag springs; but if it’s just your carry load that you only fire 50 or rounds a year of? No need.

Well, you will have more felt recoil with heavier bullets even with less velocity.

Disagree—and Isaac Newton does as well.

If a +P round has more muzzle energy (and they usually do), it will have more recoil.

You know—that every action has an equal and opposite reaction thing…
With advancements comes progress like Greenhill vs Litz. Probably disagreeing what too!

Use a heavier recoil spring and use a buffer. Keep an eye on the buffer, if it's getting tore up go with a even heavier spring and a new buffer. Or just stop using +P loads. Personal opinion here but you should never use +P or +P+ loads for concealed carry. If you did shoot someone in self defense. A good defense attorney could make a case of overkill against you.

Can you cite a single example of this ever happening ? Other than the one or two cases involving LEO ( which as far as I know none of those involved ammo type)

The idea that using SD ammo could land you in hot water in a justified shooting is something that was dreamed up by marketing executives at concealed carry insurance companies.

I have some oceanfront property in AZ I’d like to sell you.

Listen, attorneys say whatever will make them a $.
Doesnt make them right.

Remember, even Doctors and Attorneys have folk who graduate bottom of their class .
And for every case in court, there is a loser.
Not one example EVER has been cited or precedent about gun mods. EVER!!!
Urban myth hype

No idea. I always stick with 230 gr. HST.
Very, very good ammo, doesn't need to be +P.

What weapon class are you referring too? You mentioned concealed carry. I might be mistaken but what pistol uses a recoil spring & buffer. Or maybe you mean shok-buffs on the guide rod.
