Palmetto AAC 5.56 is trouble (again)

I thought this was a thing of the past, but the AAC rounds made by Palmetto are misbehaving again! Just got 500 rounds of 55gr 5.56 AAC ($240, not bad), but these don't cycle, over 90% failure! There we some issues a while back, then it was back to "normal", but now it's completely useless. 3 rifles, 6 different types of magazines, no dice.

Anyone else experiencing similar issues? I have no problem with their 9mm, but the 5.56 seems questionable.

Do you have a lot number for them? I bought some aac 5.56 about 2 months ago. I ran about 40 rounds through a mini-14 without issue.

I'll have to check! I used to empty the boxes into ammo cans, but I've had recalls with norma 5.56 (the frangible ones, scary stuff as the bullet would break off before leaving the barrel!) and 308 so I don't do this anymore and keep all the boxes. I'll check the lot number. They were part of the "daily deal" at Palmetto a couple weeks ago...

I ran a box of 20 just fine, then the rest was systematic failure, ruined my whole 5.56 range session!

This is the lot i have and it ran fine.

That seems a little high for AAC. I was considering buying some of their 70 gr. Saber "Match" rounds. Probably won't now though.

I might not be the only one with RMA requests: chat is busy and auto disconnects, phones are on hold forever... Looks like the PSA Daily Deal ammo is off the table for me at this point. Never seen this from PSA in years of being a customer, but the last 2-3 orders have been very disappointing to say the least.

i think they are swamped with orders. i ordered some .22 from them about 10 days ago and it just arrived yesterday after 2 separate delays. their turn around is normally much faster than that.

Um.

Usually, there’s no returns on ammo…if it goes bang, it’s not faulty.

Just because it won’t cycle in your rifle doesn’t mean it won’t in someone else’s. They’ll quickly say it’s an issue with your rifle (which, technically, it is).

Not all ammo runs in all guns…

Perfect opportunity to buy a .223 bolt action.

I've tried in 3 different riffles and 6 different magazines from 3 different manufacturers. I've used plenty of these before, same everything, first time I have an issue. BUT, I like where you're going with the 223 bolt action, actually 5.56  Nice little Ruger would do just fine!

I had a buddy that bought a case of .223 that wouldn’t cycle in his AK; he bought a H&R Handi-Rifle for them…that single-shot has a lifetime supply, I wager.

Quite a little tack-driver, though.

Those Ruger American Ranch Rifles that take AR mags are pretty sweet, if you ask me. Mossberg makes a pretty decent one as well…another buddy has one of those, and it’s a solid 1/2” rifle at 100yds, just over 1”@200, and about 2” at 300…

I’ve told him I’m first in line if he wants to get rid of it.

So interesting development:
  1. Palmetto kind of responded to my second request for RMA: a link to a UPS label for return, no other conversation or e-mail exchange. The link doesn't even contain a hazardous goods label. Pretty bad customer support, PSA is very disappointing these days. The last RMA I had with norma, they took care of all of it properly.

  2. I decided to give it another shot with the Hellion, and lo-and-behold, these cycle just fine, suppressed and not, with either gas block setting!
So in the end, @HansGruber you were right on the riffle/ammo combo! It's the first time I get something not cycling in an AR, especially decent ammo like AAC! Good call, and that 500 rounds of 5.56 dedicated to the Hellion now!
