The Panther had a poorly designed transmission that caused it alot of problems.

German tank commander Ernst Barkmann proved which tank was the better with his 82 confirmed kills. The Panzer was, by far, the best tank of WWII. If there was anything better than one Panzer, it was the many, many Sherman's and Soviet T34's that were cranked out.

No matter how good a tank was/is, you can't win when you're heavily outnumbered.

As the article descibed Barkmann used tactics to achieve his kills in Normandy, in face of superior numbers.

The Panther was technically more advanced and had a much better gun, but suffered from a transmission that regularly failed.

Something that maybe technically superior but breaks down regularly can be easily neutralized by a lesser weapon when the superior one isn't able to move.
