Plain or Basketweave

Had a new fresh out of the academy recruit tell me that I'm old school wearing basket weave duty gear ?. So as I remind him that I have socks older than him that's how I am old school. As I give him the look over I realize his boots never saw polish and apparently he never learned how to press a uniform and crease the patches. So my Capt. tells the kid old school has been working out just fine and that perhaps he should worry more about what we old schoolers can teach him. So the question is what's better plain or basket weave ? What do the cops in your areas wear ?

Police in my current area wear traditional blues. The city I grew up in the officers wore traditional blues up until the early 90's then they switched out to a more swat style with BDU's and more high speed shirts and jackets.

Cops here wear mostly the swat-style uni. Sometimes i see them in a traditional blue uni, but not too often.
It’s fun when an old schooler takes down a youngster a peg or two. Happens in my line of work too. Yet, i am sort of a dinosaur.

I have a SafariLand level 3 holster for my XDM 4.5 45ACP with the Basketweave finish, definitely old school classic. It’s also suede leather lined.

That's the normal Colorado Springs PD uniform. If they're on normal duty they wear a black body armor vest and the pants are BDUs. They use the Bianchi Accumold duty belts.

I don't think they're overly tactical.

Yeah I wear the basketweave real leather on the waist not plain. Some of the newbies wear the military type tac vests with their equipment on the chest rigs. Guess I'm old but nothing beats real not fake leather and basketweave just looks so much better in my eyes.
When I was a LT on mids I had two squad sergeants who had been Marines. Woe be unto any officer who showed up unpressed and unshined. The gun and gear inspections were fun to watch when they pulled out the white gloves and Q-tips. You CAN shine basketweave.

I think the traditional blues look more respectable in the eyes of the general population. State troopers in Massachusetts and New Hampshire still wear traditional uniforms.

It depends. Beat cops wear uniforms and usually newer guys don't seem to have their gear situation all sussed out yet. Most of my friends in the STL PD are what we call jump out boys and wear BDUs. Never paid much attention to holsters as they all wear higher retention level stuff than I would ever be interested in, but they all seem to be black leather.

State Boys and Jerf Cod all wear traditional looking uniforms. Except the detectives and undercover guys.
