So basically this raid was over potential liquor license infraction and “identify theft” because the newspaper allegedly has driver’s license info related to an old drunk driving charge, info supplied to the newspaper from outside sources. Apparently the newspaper even notified the PD about this info beforehand, for what and why who knows, but certainly the newspaper or reporter paper didn’t disseminate it.
Can’t see how having transcribed personal info relates to identity theft when there was not theft or misuse of that identity. Can anyone obtain police reporting information regarding .…yes, and in most cases nothing is ever redacted, even insurance companies, attorneys have this access.
This probably has some personal implications rather than just an overzealous or misinformed local LE agency. Maybe more will come out when the matter goes before the prosecutor.
Raiding a newspaper, exposing confidential sources, sorting through personal effects beyond the scope of the warrant, and denying attorney-client privileges are not just for former elected commander-in-chief.
