Prepping/packing for trip

Getting a head start today on preparations for the annual Thanksgiving week hunt. This year will be completely solo in the U.P. for 9 days. Wife is not particularly pleased but it should be a good, and retrospective week in the wilds.

First thing, for me, equipment wise is always what cutlery is going. First thoughts so far are these, three I made, and one Boker folder I am going to wring out. An ax and machete will be taken for camp clearing and firewood duties.

Next is clothing... hmm maybe company after all.

Great suggestions, packed my fire kit with several bottles of British life boat matches, several butane lighters, a couple ferro rods and even flint and steel.

Socks various weight wool boot socks.

don't forget the 9 volt battery and some fine steel wool. Add in some dryer lint with the steel wool will give you a good start.

Take multiple knives. I know it's not your first rodeo. But I almost always forgot something or lost something. Don't be distracted while packing. I've added a solar charger to my pack list. Good Luck & Good Hunting.

When it comes to the UP the first prep is to check the weather forecasts for how long you'll be there.

fire marshals tell folks to never toss a 9 volt in trash because the prongs can touch sos pad steel wool or an alum pie plat and possibly cause a trash fire
you should always wrap the connections with thick tape...
i have never had one set trash on fire, but i have made a fire with 000 steel wool and a battery. its neat and fast

Although I do not hunt I like to go camping. Wife doesn't like it so I disappear by myself for a few days every year. No matter how much I think about it and prepare it seems I always forget something. Anyways BE SAFE and GOOD LUCK on YOUR ADVENTURE...

Plus plenty of paracord 550 & 880. Walmart sells both, the heavier might get you outta tight spot.
