Privacy PSA

Interesting video @Classified. Yeah, companies like Google & Facebook (and the companies they own/taken over), have been notorious on evasion of privacy issues. Even some "Internet Of Things" (IOT) devices, have been accused and determined to do similar. Some like Ring (I believe), are set up to communicate with other potential neighborhood Ring devices, and can share their video with Police (yes, it can be disabled and they are upfront that this feature exists). Even Apple in their new iOS 14 release, put in a notification icon letting the user know when the Camera or Microphone are on and actively viewing/listening. There have even been reports of devices like Amazon's Alexa etc., listening to private conversations (which they claim was a bug that has since been corrected). It's one reason why I've never participated in any Social Media platform (until I join this forum), or include some devices on my home network. Scary "1984" times ahead, in my opinion.

A little experiment. Clear cookies/ website data on your phone or computer. Then go to any of the forums you visit regularly. Just go to the home page. Then go back and look at your website data.

I was told by some computer folks that you still are leaving all the cookies at your cell service or internet provider. So it's only semi-incognito either way it is still traceable.... watch the Edward Snowden movie he goes into it as well.
The VPN is the best way to not have websites track you for commercial reasons, I don't like the targeted ads so that's the reason I use it.

I don't visit sites that do anything controversial so that's not a worry of mine. The extent of my internet usage is that I basically come here or I'm buying gun stuff from multiple online retailers.

For the record, most sites make you enable cookies so they can show you ads. Which is how they get paid. Best I can tell our forum only plants 5 and they are things like Googletagmanager, which is apparently only being used for analytics and other mostly benign stuff as there are no ads.
