Probably one of the last armies replaces the Hi-power

Sld1959

It's actually pretty amazing that any modern army was still carrying the Hi-Power. That's not a dig on the Hi-Power at all - it's a great design in many ways with a long proven history, but also fairly antiquated by modern military standards (and I'm saying that as someone who loves and carries 1911s). There are lighter, simpler guns for modern applications that are just as reliable if not more so, and significantly less expensive to acquire and maintain.
A bit of digging and it seems the Canadians and a few other armies still use it. At least as of 5 years ago when some of the articles I found were written.
The Canadian Armed Forces adopted the P320 last year, then suspended it because of an "accidental" discharge incident. The did an investigation, and found that at least part of the cause of the incident was that the soldier was not using a holster designed for the P320. I believe that at the conclusion of that investigation, they went forward with adopting the P320.

Seems like everyone is trying modernize their military forces. Welcome to the new century.
It's unfortunate it took a hot war on Europe's doorstep, along with other geopolitical instabilities, for so many countries to finally wake up and realize they better get their acts together. For too long, many of our allies seemed to be perfectly content having the U.S. doing all the investment and modernization on their behalf.

HAve not fully read the article yet but it seems that one of the likely last countries whose army was using the Hi-Power has gone to the Sig P320.

Too bad these pistols cant make their way to America for surplus sales 🙁

Maybe they will… 🧐
