Prodigy 4.25" comp - Range Trip 11/7 - First shots

dadoser

Master Class
11/7 - Range trip - Quick trip - 250 rounds in about 45 minutes. Probably rushed the last couple magazines.

Purpose: First rounds thru the Springfield Prodigy 4.25" comp. Familiarity, break-in, check for reliability (based on initial product history). I brought the Staccato along in case I had reliability issues with the Prodigy - if I got frustrated, I could just shoot the Staccato.

Shot the Prodigy naked (OEM. No dot.)

250 rounds FMJ 124gr.
5 different Springfield 20rd magazines. Shot a couple twice magazine twice - 1 failure to feed.
5 different Staccato magazines, Shot each once. Had 4 failures to feed in the same magazine.......hmmmmm??????

Iron sights - Point of impact (POI) was high vs Point of aim(POA). Started creeping up at 12ft and more notable at 21 ft and beyond. (Honest Outlaw said the same thing in his review - so I felt validated with my shooting experience.

Initial thoughts - I like it. I think the Staccato is a lot nicer (but at almost twice the price, it should be) - at some point I will shoot them side by side for comparison. For Prodigy money, I'm still thinking the Sig P226/9 Legion SAOs may be a better choice. No reliability issues at all with either my P226 or 229. (However, I have never really been a 1911 guy.)

First rounds - not sure on distance? 21 ft center mass and 30ft head. 1 magazine each.

1 = 12ft. 2 = 15ft. 4 = 21ft (definitely started noticing the POI was creeping up. 5 = 30ft with POA adjusted down. 3 = 45ft - that was just a mess - blaming it on old eyes, iron sights and high POI.

30ft - POA at the bottom 9 and top 7 (I rushed these a bit and pulling more left at center mass.)

30ft = POA top center of neck (I rushed these a bit too)

I have a 5 inch Prodigy and an SAO 226 Legion and I can tell you that they perform virtually identical. I kept taking them both to the range to see if one would take a commanding lead and neither did. Now the 226 X5 Legion, thats a different story, bu you are also in the Staccato’s neighborhood with one of them. Ive been hemming and hawing over the 4.25 Prodigy comp. My local LGS is doing 15% of firearms at the moment…
