Prodigy and Atlas Extended Thumb Safety issues

Hi guys,
I just placed a new Atlas Works extended thumb safety in my Prodigy. I took it to the range today and during the first 15 shots, the slide connected with the new safety and locked it in place. I figured out if I hold the thumb safety down during shooting, it wouldn't engage accidentally. Has anybody have a suggestion or prior experience? I plan to put 500 rounds or so through it before I take a pistol course at Thunder Ranch!

Thanks in advance!
Ken

On 1911’s thumb safeties need to be fitted, I would suggest you find a local gunsmith to have it fitted properly. Also they key ask the smith if they warranty the work, if they do not skip them. It is really easy to overfit the safety if they do not know what they are doing.

If I understand you correctly, you're saying the safety is engaging itself during recoil? If that's the case, it isn't fitted properly. It should lock in the off or on position with a positive click.
Its also possible that the larger pad is coming into contact with your hand and being bumped on. Try changing your grip and see what happens.

Hard to imagine this could be the problem, but have you looked at the safety plunger spring ? Is it ‘locking’ in place when you rotate the safety ?

All great answers, thanks fellas. I did triple check my hand placement/grip and it still happened during the first 7-10 rounds, then stopped. I will have a certified armorer look at it and make changes.
Thanks again!
