Question about Springfield Armory XDS Mod 2 (9mm) Dry Firing

I am new the ownership. Picked up the above pistol new from Bass Pro Shop on clearance. Is it normal for the trigger to not reset when dry firing (unloaded gun)? The trigger doesn't reset automatically like my VP9. Is this a defective gun and/or is that abnormal? I have to reset the slide to pull the trigger more than once.

Normal.

The slide action is what resets the firing pin and trigger.

By working the slide in dry firing it only takes a very little amount of rearward action to reset it. You shouldn’t have to bring the slide all the way back to reset the trigger.

Dry firing your pistol in excess is not recommended as noted in the owner’s manual.

I believe the XD line has carbon steel firing pins. I recommend snap caps for dry firing.
