I've been working overtime shifts on Fridays as an incentive to get to the range each week, because it's so close to the plant. This week I was really excited to try out my new PDP Compact and compare it with the VP9. What really got me was when the husband told me to bring the FNX Tactical. Now understand...every time that man has me shoot a gun of his, it becomes mine. He knows this. This time I kept asking him if he was sure (it just felt wrong somehow), but he to just take it and run a few mags through it. Well...twist my rubber arm. ![Big grin :D :D](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
So after work I drove over to the range and did my thing. I was so tired I forgot the glam shots but I did take pics of the results.
The first one out of the case was the VP9, my old friend (well, not really that old
).
Not too bad, just a few fliers to keep me humble. I ran Federal AE 124gr at 10 yards. Next up was the PDP...
I fed her the same as the VP9, 10 yards. This one had some snap, but nothing I couldn't handle. It ran smoothly with no issues whatsoever. I do love the feel of the grip in my hand. The triggers of the VP9 and the PDP feel quite similar to me. The only difference I could feel was the PDP had a slightly shorter reset. Both are crisp. Both pistols are in my "favorite" category.
Now...the fun. The FNX felt good in my hand, but if I were to have one I would change out the backstrap, because as it is now, it is a little bit big for my hand. I loaded one magazine with Federal 137gr and one with Winchester 230gr. I ran the 137gr first and, well, let's just say I learned what that gun doesn't like first thing. The first shot was fine. The second was FTE. After that, every second casing would not eject. Well, I didn't feel like dinking around for 15 rounds, so I dropped the mag and inserted the Winchester 230gr. Ahhhh....much better! There must be a thing about 45s...the brass hits my chest every time. And I really wasn't too surprised when it choked on the 137. Must be an FN thing. My FN Reflex won't eat 115gr. They have higher end tastes, I guess
.
If I had brought more ammo I would totally have reloaded and shot some more, but this past week was a beast and I am tired. Anyway, I am pretty impressed with that gun, but it is not mine (although he says I can shoot it whenever I want
). I would like to take it out and run some defense rounds through it.. It is a smooth, flat shooter and not difficult at for me to handle.
Well, that's my little adventure this week. I hope I have a better week and more energy next week.
