Range Day 11/19/24 practice for steel plate challenge...

As I mentioned in another thread, I'm looking into getting into competition shooting. 10 yrs of Army service, and 20+ years as a police officer. I can shoot pretty good, but never tried fast, and never tried competition shooting. Now that I'm retired and spend a lot more day's at the gun range, figured I'd practice up and start participating locally.

Well last month was my first practice, and just as I thought, I was slow... too slow. Here's a video from that first practice. Stage 1 of the Steel Plate Challenge.

Well, I went back today, with a new compensator on my Echelon. A new gun belt, and a new shot timer. This time I was practicing stage 2. Easier layout, but all small plates.

Was testing out my drone for footage, no sound thou.

and finally... I brought my 2 favorite ladies; I have 2 Dan Wesson 1911 .45's with iron sights. Surprisingly, most likely because that was what I've trained and used most of my life, I did better with my Dan Wesson's. I'm just now getting into red dots. Thou I still prefer old school iron baby. lol

Alright... back in 2 weeks for stage 3 practice. Looking to start competing after the new year.

Thanks for reading.

Start with your hands down closer to the tops of your shoulders for a quicker draw.
When your left hand goes to draw I'd prefer to see the right hand come to your chest.
Don't ever let your right hand loose out in front
Establish your two-hand grip in front of your chest and then press out to target.
You missed target 4, 3 second penalty-better to go hit it before you engage the stop plate.

Hi,

How did I miss this the first time you posted? Nice practice. I've been telling myself that I'm going to take part in a local steel challenge. I've got no way to practice so I'll have to wing it.

How's it been going lately? Please share more of your adventures. :)

Thank you for your indulgence,

Best way to practice is to just go shoot it. The folks at these matches are friendly and happy to help with new shooters.
That was my experience and it was an IDPA match!
