Range Report: 146 Round Practice Session, 12/1/23

Greetings ladies and gents,

Seems it's been a couple of weeks since I got out to the range. Plus, I don't think my schedule in November allowed time for a training session. I'd better schedule one for this month. But I digress.

It's getting on into winter here in the Wild Wild Upper Midwest. My drive to the range was a bit damp and pretty chilly, light rain mixed with a little snow at 33°.

I walked inside and the young man behind the counter, Jake, said, "Hey Cliff! What lane do you want?" My favorite lane #1 was open so I got set up. I brought my "big guns", Garrison .45, XDM Elite 5.25, and XD9. I grabbed a couple boxes of Fiocchi 115 grain but then found one box had a few cartridges missing. Hence the "146 round" practice session. The LAX Ammo .45ACP 230 grain shoots real nice and it's a good price when they offer a deal on the shipping. Today was going to be a quick session with 50 rounds through my EDC XD9, 46 rounds through the XDM Elite, and 50 rounds through the 1911. Simple marksmanship at 10 yards.

Of course, since the range wasn't too busy I decided to start with a quick 10-10-10 drill. It was a little better than my last one two weeks ago but I think I'll practice this drill a little more often.

My times were OK but I let three hits out of the black. I tried to slow down a little but my split times are always pretty consistent. Maybe I'll put up the video when I get around to editing it. But it's nothing to write home about. I taped on a B-8 center and target #2 looked a little better since I slowed down (un-timed).

I really thought I was doing good on target #3 but when I pulled it back I saw eight hits in the 10 ring and two hits out in the 7 ring. Drat.

Target #4 is a little better with only one hit out of the black.

For my last ten rounds from the XD9 I sent out a fresh 12x18 silhouette and it came back like this. I suppose it's kind of OK-ish.

I guess you could say I still had two flyers but they weren't as bad as others I've had. I patched up that target and started to work on it with the XDM. It came back like this after 20 rounds.

Yeah, I know. I'm rushing my shots a bit, just having fun. Here's the rest of that partial box (16 rounds) on the next target.

Then I got to work on the Garrison 1911 .45ACP. This is the first ten rounds.

Not so much low-left today. Let's keep that up. Here's target #2 with ten hits.

ADCreHcu3ykfISxJbCp4OHLYJjCXlFk1caZh7crK9a5SeMoGnoT_OQIkxQVDkJW8nF1Dw1bZGaiDAiIl65RaTuN4MqExtQ3TZW3v9U1I2Gw_QujoDEabG8SP9vkF-eTXEYBjskMdoMqu5DRy_vrPnCR0j4AJfQ=w1648-h927-s-no

I don't know why they're drifting low. I'll concentrate a little more maintaining the sight picture. This next target is twenty rounds, most center mass, and one mag (7) on the head, sort of.

OK, here's the last ten rounds of the day. We're going to get serious. I pull out a new target and send it down range. It came back like this.

OK, not too shabby. That's good enough for a glam shot. :ROFLMAO:

I've had my fun. It's time to pack up, get home, and take Mrs. BassCliff out for dinner. Wow! It looks like the snow is going to stick around for a little while.

I don't have my winter tires on my truck yet. Shame on me. Luckily this is the close range and our favorite Indian restaurant is just down the street from the house. It was a good day. Thanks for letting me share.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
