Master Class
As I posted yesterday in the 48 hours thread, I picked up one of these…

So today I took it, along with my PPK/S, to my local indoor range. PPK/S went so I could continue break in. It had 135 rounds through it, now has 235 rounds through it. Today with the PPK/S .380 there was one failure to feed with Speer TMJ (out of 50) that took two magazine reinsertions to get it to load and one failure to feed with Fed Hydra-Shok (out of 15) that only took one reinsertion to properly load. 35 Fed HST fired flawlessly and last in the chain, so not thinking the previous were due to lack of lubrication or because of grit.

The infamous PPK/S bite was still there unless I readjusted grip every couple of rounds, but at least no broken skin this time.

Target was at 5 yds, not 7 yds…couldn’t see my damned sights well enough at 7 - everything blurred out. Top ring was the Speer, middle was Hydra Shok, bottom was HST. I think were a couple left at the end I just put into the top circle.

No laughing please…

After getting that nonsense out of the way, it was time for the LCR (never shot one before, though I used to have a SW 442 38 Sp +P).

On this target, distances were was marked. At 3 yds, I fired 6 rounds into #2 from standing 2h, 6 rounds into #1 leaning against left wall, then 6 rounds into #3 leaning against right wall. Moved to 7 yds, repeated sequence in #5, #4, and #6. Back to 3 yds, same thing. With last 16, did top row again.

First 50 rounds were PPU .32 SW Longs…like shooting a .22. Last 20 were Federal Champion .32 H&R Magnum…NOT like a .22 😂. I’ve got some different H&R Magnum rounds coming and some Buffalo Bore wadcutters to carry (32 H&R STANDARD PRESSURE Ammo
100 gr. Hard Cast @ (900 fps - 2" or 1050 fps - 6"/ME 222 ft-lbs) 20 Round Box.

I really like the LRC (except the sights, which is always a problem for me when they’re tiny). I was torn between the LRC and SW 432, but I’ve been reading WAY too many QC problems with the 432, even recently. There were none locally to fondle so I would have had to roll the dice online. I really wanted the 432 UC because of the sights but I didn’t want to buy a brand new gun and have to send to SW for 2-3 months (I’ve read that’s how far they are behind on fixing their not found by an invisible QC issues). Once more time passes or I can find which online retailer has most turnover (so they have newest manufactured SW 432 UCs), I’d still like to try one.

I always did hate that stupid old movie Frosty the snowman.
Thanks for shooting him full of holes 🙂

Hi @Lab Us,

Nice job on the 9 spot. I was a little concerned that all that hot lead would melt Frosty. ;)

Did you make any decisions about your favorite ammo for these pistols?

Thanks for sharing your fun! :)

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

I have not. I have some Buffalo Bore hard cast coming in Friday and some Federal Self Defense JHP and Remington HTT JHP came in yesterday. All in H&R Magnum. All headed to range next week.

Everything I’ve read indicates it might be better to stick with hard cast wadcutters with the 1.87” barrel for a self defense load. The Buffalo Bore hard cast is supposed to be 900 fps out of a 2” barrel. I am hoping that if the .32 Mag becomes more popular, we’ll see more ammo offerings for SD out of small revolvers.

As for a range/practice load, that might be the role of SW .32 long as it’s half the price (or better) of HR. But once I get dialed in, I don’t see this little gun getting a lot range time, at least with high round counts. I foresee buying two 20 round boxes of whatever, shooting 22 about once a quarter, then use the other 18 for a load 6 + 2 (6) round speed strips.
