Dear friends,
I took a quick trip out to my local range today to practice exclusively with my Garrison 1911 .45ACP. I seem to have lost my mojo with it and wanted to feel the love again. But today she was a bit fickle. I think I need to spend even more quality time with her. The 100 rounds today were just getting her warmed up.
As you can see I have two 10-round magazines and three 7-round magazines. I shot a mixed bag at a few different targets for this session. The range wasn't too busy when I got started so I thought, "Why not?" I tried a 10-10-10 drill from low ready. It was pretty lousy but at least I got them all on the paper.
I taped up the holes, stuck on an 8" reactive circle, sent it back out to 10 yards, and tried to slow down and get over my flinch. I used the 4" circles later.
Ten rounds at this 8" target saw three of them totally miss. Drat.
I patched it up again, sent it out, and put two of the 7-round magazines through it. Only one missed the 8" circle. That's a little better.
Next I thought I'd try one of the 4" circles. I got most of them on the target. (Still shooting at 10 yards.)
Since I had taped on a fresh B-8 center, I shot 10 rounds at it next. Although there was a fairly nice group it was still low-left.
Since I barely scratched the 9 ring, I just patched it up again and tried harder next time. If you give me the line breaks it looks like I got all ten hits in the black this time.
OK, I brought only 100 rounds with me today and we're getting down to it. On this target I tried 7 rounds on the small circles and there's 8 rounds in the B-8 center. Yick.
This is my favorite target. I saved my last ten rounds for it. That red bullseye is 2 inches long and 1.5 inches wide, and I missed the whole thing.
I guess I did manage one ragged hole but still too many flyers. Now I wish I'd brought at least another 50 rounds. We're just starting to get acquainted.
I forgot to mention, I just got new prescription glasses and I remembered to use them on this last 10 round magazine. The sights were a little fuzzy compared to my shooting glasses with the "top focal" diopter, but I could make out the dots. I figured I'd practice with my new glasses, just in case.
I'm going to try a stick-on diopter on top of the right lens. That will allow me to see the front sights clearly while I use both eyes on the target. I'll let you know how it goes.
I'll bring this pistol out again soon so that I can get more consistent with it. I know it's a good shooter, can't say the same for me.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
