Good day, my friends!
Today's live fire practice at Fletcher Arms was dedicated to my XD9, grip, and accuracy at 10 yards on B-8 targets. I used 100 rounds of WWB and also put 50 rounds of greasy Norma Tac through my little P22. As luck would have it, I was assigned lane #10. It's my favorite lane!
And away we go! Ten magazines to be loaded ten rounds each.
This was the result of my cold 10-10-10 drill. I always like to start my session that way if I can. Meh, nothing to write home about. At least they're all on the paper under par time. It's still a fail according to Larry Vickers.
I took video of two of the timed 10-10-10 drills along with my second un-timed B-8 of the day. The accuracy was a bit better on #2.
The above picture is different than the rest because it's a screen grab from the video I took. OK, there's only one out of the black. Targets #1 (timed), #2 (un-timed), and #9 (timed) are on the video. I'll put the video near the end of the post if you just want to go ahead and scroll on down. Targets #2 through #8 were all un-timed with me concentrating on fundamentals, especially my grip. Here's #3.
Drat! I let two out of the black on that one. At least they're all on the paper. Here's #4. Hmmm.
Double drat! There's three out of the black. I've got to get my act together and not let all of this good advice go to waste. OK, here's #5.
Oh fiddle. Still two out of the black, but there are five inside the 10 ring. Let's see if I can keep up the concentration. Here's #6.
Better! Only one out of the black. Hey, if those count as line breaks, do I have seven in the 10 ring? Only one, maybe 2 X? Moving on to target #7.
OK, only one out of the black. Hey, does that line break give me two in the X ring? Here's #8.
OK, only one out of the black. Do I see seven in the 10 ring with two in the X ring? I think this proper grip thing is paying off. Let's have a closer look at #8.
The last of the B-8 targets, #9 was a timed 10-10-10 drill. Even with the time penalty, I think Larry Vickers would give me a passing score on this one.
If you give me that line break on the 9 ring at 5 o'clock, even with the one second penalty I hope we're looking at 92 points in 8.02 seconds. Let's take a closer look at #9 just for fun.
Here's the video of #1, #2, and #9. Sorry about the bad camera angles. I'm always guessing.
For my last magazine of 9mm, I patched up a 12x18 silhouette and sent it out to 25 yards. After 10 rounds it came back like this.
Only seven rounds made it on the target. Blast. Last time I got eight on the target. More practice! To finish my session I patched up that target again, sent it to 10 yards, and shot my P22 at it. I used one magazine on each of the bullseyes. The last one was the upper right corner. That one seemed to have the better group around the bullseye.
I think I've got the East-West figured out on these sights. Now I just trying to figure out the North-South hold. I think the front sight may be a little too tall. More experimentation is necessary. For my last magazine of .22 I used a 1/3 size USPSA target, trying for center mass at 10 yards. Meh.
Still, I think my little plinker is coming together. Maybe I'll shoot at a closer distance and try to figure out exactly how much POA might be different than POI. There is a dedicated short range at this facility. It goes out to only 17 feet. Perhaps I'll start there next time. Until then, thanks for putting up with me. You guys are the greatest.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
