Range Report: Fletcher Arms (basics), 8/31/22

Hello sports fans!

Wednesday is my usual practice day at the range and today was no exception. Again, thanks to @KillerFord1977's suggestion, there was no timer, no draw from holster, no drills, etc. I dedicated today to basics, fundamentals, marksmanship, slow fire, and pushing out beyond 10 yards. It wasn't great but I did progress a little as got warmed up, and concentrated more. This Fletcher Arms facility is close to the house and it had been a couple of weeks since I was here. I felt like using the analog target carriers today. I was given lane #10, my favorite lane!

I'd brought along a couple of B-8 targets, a couple of 12x18 reactive silhouettes, and some smaller targets in my range pack. But I forgot my little cowboy gun today. Drat! I had a blast shooting the Rough Rider .22 last week. I'll bring it next week.

My Plan A was to shoot at 20 yards today, five 10-round magazines from my XD9. The only distance marks here are on the wall. From lane #10 I like to walk over to lane #1 or #2 to see how close I am. I guess that's close enough to 60 feet.

We'll run through these targets pretty quickly. Target #1 was shot cold with no warm-ups. Everything low and left. Yick! I think I missed the paper altogether with one shot.

AL9nZEXiozEbYmgjSwNkgF8jjdbRfhZJQBN9NonfKLv9DTbI7MfvlvqM4m_RwYlppuy0vktuuGDOKM8PrmfKvBXL7KGeUKAfGBvMizaDQuxQLOerns2Jqp7CmdCLWF9m3l__epLR9y626aU-b29etIhNVBpvJQ=w1236-h927-no

Target #2: Things are getting closer to the center. All ten hits are on the paper this time, with three hits in the black. Woo hoo! But two in the 5 ring. Boo!

AL9nZEV9y3HgE5SH_IokwTeTwVNO1GLIMlEQQRYmPZxfGENdhheHoCr09IsqF2zQv_LIByPkKeGI74DHk3Y6yT9ltuAollSHhaI6O0XDRiSmqNLFrkNj_JcoDp1_8aGiFbViqtTOcmABHvxy1vuGpZNkeRGhQA=w1236-h927-no

Target #3: Bleh. All but two hits are inside the 7 ring. If you give me the line break that's three in the black. Still, two in the 5 ring, or worse. Doh!

AL9nZEWOyE4_qtwCEnGPLJYckQwUKJ-fAkmL0NOrUvifYOiwIq6ry3QTGYqqUeiONAfgRSir0kRr6Pejjbg-HPMJY88tWzL6TzRNyVBt3NcWCCvUpHuhZ3KwhQPu-FoU7Q3twnBVJtiBWFpWIF4oEB3QbFbeDA=w1236-h927-no

Target #4: All but three hits are inside the 8 ring (count the line break!). There's even one in the X ring. Oh joy! Still two in the 6 ring. Woe is me.

AL9nZEXzm7ADMOe9HYL7x3nFUiigj_JASavLdSXzRX6_ylVWDiqCdgHvRNE5PfdYm8W-qIi5arz4QVdercAjYw8dNCdHAXBzhoL5TsciQqEcBqcXhToshQ4w2fAA2rgbRWbm3Ebw2vBsz3Om5mgcy9VLcSnjqQ=w1236-h927-no

Target #5: By this time the target was getting pretty ugly so I stuck on an 8" reactive. There's still two hits in the 6 ring but more shots closer to the bull.

Now we'll move the target back up to 10 yards (30 feet) so I can practice with the CW9. (I'll be glad when I can get Mrs. BassCliff a new pistol.)

Target #1: (7 round mag) At least they all made it on the paper, only two off the target.

AL9nZEWqH9RFKZ3KyCs0lQDgHg76_vnchBoNfBKxQYXrIYHh5quGg545C-siUQMmWSs09A2rxGthR1hnQukhKWyVMiSu1PbmyZjBQfYIzi2XJ9_Sf0xB6yS1pOYtdaut8lyhyB7rSNRwRWz0nNZPtZD3hu4SBg=w1236-h927-no

Target #2: (8 round mag) Half on the target, half are close to the target. Sheesh!

Target #3: (8 round mag) Five hits on the target, three on the paper.

Target #4: (8 round mag) Four on the target, four on the paper, but one right in the bull! There's something to smile about. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.

I like the trigger on this pistol much better after installing the spring kit. But there is absolutely no "wall" on this trigger. It's just a long smooth pull until bang. I'll have to discipline myself more to keep the sight picture aligned properly all the way through the pull.

Then I had some fun with my P22 at ten yards. I think I've finally got the rear sight adjusted properly. The groups tightened up the more I shot it. Here's Target #1.

Target #5: This was a pretty tight group but just below the bull. I was starting to rush now.

Then I did about three mag dumps in a row, just for fun. I'd like to get a nice .22 target pistol one of these days. I have other firearms to buy first.

To wrap up this session I hung up the two silhouettes to see if I could hit them at 10 yards with my XD9. I got four right in the bullseye on this one. One of these days all ten shots will be there. (Un hunh!)

OK, one last target. Only three bulls this time.

I guess it's time to call it quits for today. I shot about 100 rounds of 9mm and the same of .22LR. I'll save some fun for next week. Thanks for coming along with me. My birthday is coming up soon and I have a special surprise planned for myself. Stay tuned!

Thank you for your indulgence,

Nice work and glad you got to get in some work. I tried yesterday but within a few minutes of getting set up on the rifle range I had to start helping for possible Ark construction. Again thanks for a great report.

Hi guys,

Nice work and glad you got to get in some work. I tried yesterday but within a few minutes of getting set up on the rifle range I had to start helping for possible Ark construction. Again thanks for a great report.

Thank you. I heard something about a little rainstorm down your way. I hope all is well and your fun isn't spoiled for too long. ;)

Always good to build that foundation up. Looks like a well spent trip. Excited for the future surprise!

Thanks! I normally train for self defense combat situations. I've been encouraged lately to slow down and practice pure fundamental marksmanship. I'm rather enjoying it. I know I'll never be a competition shooter but it's fun to train that way sometimes.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
