Hi guys,
It was a lovely early Spring day so the old noob decided to get in a little practice session at Fletcher Arms, the older facility this time. I have decided that Lane #7 is not one of my favorites. The HVAC blows right here and the target won't cooperate too well when I'm clipping it to the carrier, or trying to tape on new B-8 centers.
This was going to be a short session with only the Garrison (50 rounds) and XD9 (100 rounds). Yes, I'm still trying to use up all my WWB. The .45auto was from LAX Ammo. I've never had any problems with it.
You can see the breeze from the HVAC messing with my target. Once you send it downrange it takes a while to stop bouncing on the cables.
I still think the 30 foot mark on the wall is a little long. The thirty feet I have measured in my basement seems a little closer. That's OK. I'll just "aim small, miss small".
I started with the 1911. There's a lot of low/left in this first magazine.
OK, not so much low/left in the second magazine.
I shot a couple more B-8 targets with the .45 and managed to get about half in the black and half a little low/left. I seem to shoot in a curve. I start lousy, do OK in the middle, and end lousy.
OK, let's practice with my carry gun, the XD9. As usual I start off pretty sucky.
On target #2 I had two FTEs out of that mag of 10. Yuck.
Let's say it knocked me off my rhythm. Target #2 was really lousy.
OK, let's settle down and get serious. I'll shoot three more B-8 targets before switching it up. OK, #3 is pretty good for this old noob.
I didn't use a timer at all today. This was all slow fire with at least two seconds between shots, some had longer pauses. #4 is not bad either.
As usual, I start getting cocky when I'm shooting well. I let a couple get low on #5.
Let's switch it up and have a little fun. I put three reactive circles on my large silhouette. I'll shoot 20 at the lower center mass, 20 at the middle high thoracic, and 10 at the head.
I got a little excited because the very first shot hit the red bullseye on the lower target. But then, in true WWB form, I got another FTE and another dud. I was able to reuse the dud but I had to put it back in the chamber twice before it fired.
Once I completed my last 50 rounds at 10 yards, the target came back looking like this.
I managed to keep all but three hits inside those 8" circles. I'd call this a little bit of improvement over last week. Next week will be even better. Yeah. Right.
WWB Recap: Out of 100 rounds I had three FTEs and one dud that took three tries in the chamber to fire. I still have a few hundred rounds left. I'll practice with it but I won't take it to any training sessions, unless I want to practice malfunction drills.
What I need to do is get back in the habit of dry fire laser practice in my basement too. I'll make it a point to practice dry fire again before I go live fire. We'll see if that makes a difference. You'll be the first to know! Thanks for putting up with me.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
