Greetings and Salutations!
What's a patriot to do after an election like that? Why, go to the range, of course! It's been months since I've had a practice session due to my "seasonal employment", and it shows. Now that it has ended I can get back to being retired. I went to the newer of my local facilities and procured lane#3, my favorite!
I brought my two newest pistols, the VP9 and XD9 Mod3, along with a couple hundred rounds of Blazer 124 grain.
Because it's been months since my last "marksmanship" practice session, I worked out at 10 yards for the whole session. I fired 15 shot strings at each target. I wanted to compare and contrast the VP9 and XD9-3.
This is a smaller silhouette compared to the B-27 size and, I think, the first time I've practiced with it. The first magazine using the XD9-3 wasn't great, a little left but at least not low-left. I've got to keep the "equal light" part of the sight picture more stable.
Plus, for me, shooting at an all black target doesn't give me much to reference. I taped on a B-8 center with a yellow dot in the center. Let's see how I do.
Meh, still a little left. I really like the grip on this XD9-3 and the trigger feels good. Although it doesn't feel quite as good as the trigger on the VP9. Here's target #3.
Ahh! There's the Cliff you know and love. There's a couple low-left but overall I'm getting this sight picture figured out, and more stable. Moving on to target #4.
OK, that's a little tighter group, I suppose. But I should be able to get a few more in the 10 ring. Maybe one or two more practice sessions? Let's switch targets just for fun. Here's a mini USPSA silhouette, trying to get all hits in the A zone.
Dad blast it! Give me a line break and I count five hits outside the A zone. I'll work on that. But that means ten his inside the A box.
Let's work with the VP9 now. I'll send out a fresh black silhouette but use a yellow sticker for the bullseye, just to try and help these old eyes.
Oooff! That's not so great. You can tell I'm out of practice. With generous line breaks you could say there's only one hit outside the 9 ring. The trigger is just different enough that I have to be careful of sending a round before I'm ready. I like to "prep" my trigger but the walls are different. The VP9 takes a little lighter touch. Let's put holes in a few B-8 centers. Here's target #2.
OK, that's starting to shape up, but I've done better. I'm so out of practice. On target #3 at least I managed to get them all in the black.
Moving to the mini USPSA silhouettes, here's target #4.
Again, with generous line breaks you can count four hits outside the A box. Let's try one more, #5.
I guess that's not too bad, only three outside the A box. (Line breaks, please!) We're nearing the end of the session, and my ammo. Using both pistols, let's put one more mag on a shoot-n-see target, just for fun. Here's the XD9-3.
I'll patch it up, using a few extra red dots to make a little bigger bullseye, and try again with the VP9-3.
Hmm, this seems to spread out a bit. I don't know where that low-left flyer came from.
I've been using 15 shot strings and because of that I have 20 cartridges left. I'll put 10 more through each pistol on a shoot-n-see target for one more comparison. Here's the last mag with the VP9.
That doesn't suck too bad. Here's the last 10 rounds with the XD9-3.
Well, that does kinda suck. Next time I think I'll get my two XD9 pistols to go head-to-head. Won't that be fun?
I really like this XD9 Mod3 pistol, especially the grip and the slide serrations. The sights, not so much. I need a little more practice with the trigger but it feels good. In the next few weeks I'll try to get an HE507c installed and take my first journey into optic land.
You know what? I had so much fun today I think I'll go again tomorrow. Next time I'll bring my daughter. That's always fun. Until then, thanks for letting me share my fun.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
