Well, hey gang!
Greetings from the Wild Wild Upper Midwest, where all the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average. It's been a rare, three-range-days-in-a-row kind of week for me. Mrs. BassCliff is coming back from her Mom's tomorrow so that will put a screeching halt to all the fun I've been having. After going to the veterinarian's office to pick up some medication, giving it to my Wonder Pooch, getting in a quick half-workout, and meeting a friend for lunch, I finally made it out to the newer facility with my dirty 1911s for more practice. I tossed downrange another 100 rounds of .45 and 100 rounds of 9mm from my favorite lane, #2.
I'm sure you're familiar with Gary and Ron by now. As grippy as the grips are on the Garrison, I think I'll try the stock grips just to be sure I need the grippy grips for this sidearm. The stock grips on the Ronin seem to be quite adequate, although I might put some grip tape on the front strap.
Again I was using LAX Ammunition's .45ACP 230 grain and Blazer Brass 9mm 124 grain. I had no malfunctions at all today from either unit.
I brought a few different targets today and used 10-shot strings for the most part. Most were at distances of 10 yards but I sent a few targets out to 15 yards. I began the session with Gary .45 on the B-8 targets. The first one came back like this.
OK, that's not as low/left as I started yesterday. I should shoot this gun more often. The more I shoot it, the better I like it. Here's target #2.
Now that's a pretty good target, for me, with this pistol. Just one bad flyer low/left. I'm glad I edited the yellow dot into the B-8 centers. It seems to help these old eyes. Here's target #3.
Oh! Dangerously close to getting them all in the black. Half are in the 10 ring. It's like I know what to do, I know how to do it right, I know when I do it right, but my consistency sucks.
Here's target #4.
Again, a little above average for me. That very high shot happened when I was riding the reset too closely and it got away from me unexpectedly, before I let the sights settle. I'll have to watch that. With the last 10 rounds in this box, here's target #5.
The hit in the 8 ring I can pass off as "combat accuracy" but the 7 ring hits are disappointing. Let's try to have fewer of those. Now we'll move on to the Ronin 9mm, same target, same distance. Here's target #1.
OK, not horrible. Again, that high shot in the 8 ring happened when I was riding the reset and didn't let my sights settle. You'd think I would've learned my lesson. Here's Ron's target #2.
That's a pretty tight group with a flyer off by itself in the 9 ring. It seems I was very consistent with my hold on this target. I changed my hold for the next target hoping to move that group more toward center. Let's see how I did with target #3.
Well, I guess the group is more centered but it really spread out. Maybe I'm trying too hard and need to breathe better. I tend to hold my breath when I'm concentrating. So, let's take a breath before the shot, let it halfway out, pull the trigger, then continue breathing. Here's target #4.
OK, not too bad of a group, still just a little high gain. The next time I take this pistol out I think I'll shoot closer, 5 or 7 yards, just to make sure the rear sight is adjusted properly. Nah, it's not the sights, it's the shooter!
Now I'm going to practice a little at 15 yards.
The Ronin target #5 came back from 15 yards like this.
Hmm, again with the high and a little left. I think it just the hold in my sight picture. I'll try to stick to a hard 6 o'clock hold.
I've got a few more pictures to post up in the next reply. Stay tuned.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
