Hey gang!
Wow. I think this is my third range report in one week. Today was an extra treat because the girls decided to go to the Nutcracker ballet this afternoon. So I went to the range after church. I ran into my pastor there after we both had finished. Great minds think alike?
It was a little busy when I arrived but I managed to get my favorite lane, #1, here at the older facility where I have a membership.
I brought 100 rounds of S&B and 50 rounds of Blazer Brass to feed the XD9.3 and VP9. I'll use a few different targets, all at 10 yards again, mostly WITHOUT my special shooting lenses. I had told myself I need to practice without my corrective lens because I usually do not wear them.
I started with the small black silhouette with a yellow sticker on the bullseye just to give me something central at which to aim.
Yes, this is an old school analogue range. You use a switch on the wall to move your target and line it up with the numbers on the wall. I was utilizing 10-shot strings again and put two magazines on this first target using my new optic on the XD9.3. Can you say "Yuck?"
I did not hit the bullseye at all. I noticed that I was pulling the dot low as I manipulated the trigger. So I got serious with my fundamentals and tried again. I patched up the target and put another 10 hits on it.
Well, that's a little better. All but one are in the 9 ring (line break, please!) and there are actually a few hits on the bullseye. Let's try something a little different. I have a few 3x5 cards. Whatta ya say? Maybe the contrast will help me concentrate.
I sent it out to 10 yards to see what I could see. OK, the card really stands out against the black silhouette. This might work.
I took some time for this string, coming back to the high compressed position between shots. That way I could practice presenting with the dot in place at full extension. It came back like this.
OK, not too shabby. There was one it off the card low-left. (That figures.) But I seem to be getting the hang of it. Let's try that one more time just to make sure this wasn't a fluke.
The next target came back with all the hits on the 3x5 card. That calls for a glam shot.
OK, that's 50 rounds through the XD9 Mod.3 with the Holosun 507c. Next I'll put 50 rounds, 10 at a time, through the VP9 (without glasses!) in the next post. Then I'll have a showdown at the end, 25 rounds through each, on a fresh target, to see which is shooting the best today. I'll be right back.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
