Hello!
Today I visited one of my range facilities because they are also my FFL. I braved the snow to add another firearm to my little gun cabinet.
After doing all the paperwork and fees, I dropped off my VP9 to have the Speed Sights installed, then I procured my favorite lane.
The previous occupant of this lane had left their target with only a few holes in it. So I patched it up with a couple of 8" reactive circles, sent it out to 10 yards, then put 17 rounds on the top target and 21 rounds on the bottom target using my new Echelon 4.5F Comp.
Unfortunately, my target did not come back looking like the test fire target above. But there were only a couple of flyers from the first magazine and none from the second magazine.
I'll admit that those are a couple of pretty big spreads. I'm sure I can get a handle on it because this pistol shoots better than I can. See? Here's the second round of targets, already with tighter groups. Again, the small magazine on the top (17), and the extended mag on the bottom (21).
Hey, only a couple of flyers just barely off the targets. I'm still figuring out my hold with this sight system. I've never used a U-notch rear sight but I love the tritium front sight. OK, that's enough for the new pistol until I can get it home and clean it up good. I also brought my XD9 Mod.3 with the Holosun. I certainly need more practice with this pistol/optic combo. Here's the first string of 15 hits.
Yick. I'll patch up this target and try again from 10 yards. This one is a little better after 15 more hits.
I don't think there's enough contrast for these old eyes to focus, aim, and maintain sight picture. Let's try a B-8 center with a yellow bullseye.
OK, only a few hits outside the 10 ring after 15 rounds. I've got 13 rounds left for this session. Let's try a 1/3 size USPSA silhouette.
I count 9 hits inside the A zone, even though it's still a little low/left. Since this target was very similar to the previous, I'm wondering if I need to adjust the optic a click up and right. I might try that when I have more time.
But that's all the time we have today, plus I'm out of ammo. It's a bright day outside and all the roads have been plowed making for a nice commute home.
I remembered to stop by the store and pick up some roses, candy, and a Valentine's Day card for Mrs. BassCliff. I'll leave them on her desk tonight to surprise her in the morning. I also bought a new pistol case for the Echelon. My little security cabinet is getting pretty full.
The only problem with getting something bigger is having to hire someone to take it downstairs and install it in the basement. I might have to bite the bullet one day soon. First world problems, right? Thanks for putting up with me.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
