That's right boys and girls!
I went to the range two days in a row this week. I'm thinking about going again after church on Sunday. I've got a lot of practice time to make up. But I digress.
I met my daughter at the older range because it's closer and more convenient while my grandkids are in school. Daughter brought her Sig P238 and S-I-L's G17. I brought both XD9 pistols and the VP9. We got lane #9, my favorite!
We just had a ton of fun shooting all the guns and putting holes in the paper. Here's Daughter starting off with her P238 (.380).
And this was the result of her first magazine. Not too shabby for not having practiced since the last time I brought her to the range. We shot at 10 yards for the whole session.
Then I started with the XD9 Mod3 and put five hits on the head of the B-27 silhouette.
Daughter picked up the G17 next. It's a big gun for her and she was flinching a bit, pulling low-left. But she eventually settled down.
Then yours truly actually picked up the Glock and put lots of hits on center mass.
It was going pretty well until...
A quick flick of the casing and I was back in business. Daughter also had a couple of malfunctions with the G17, a double feed and an FTL. She had to drop the mag to clear the double feed. Here's the mayhem we wrecked on the first target.
Here's my ugly mug along with my beautiful daughter.
Daughter picked up the new XD9-3 and starts getting near the bullseye right away on the headshot. She really enjoyed shooting this pistol.
Then I tried to put 15 rounds on the 4" target at the shoulder. Just a few got out.
Daughter starts putting hits on the other shoulder.
I think with a little more practice she'd be really good with this pistol.
We're nearing the end of our session and we want to have a little contest. I brought two shoot-n-see silhouettes. Daughter picks up my VP9 and hits the bullseye with the first shot. Wow.
She's putting together quite a string!
Hey! That's not bad at all considering she's shot the pistol only once before.
I took my turn with the VP9 and was only marginally better.
We put some holes in this just for fun. I'm going to share it with my Turning Point team. They should get a kick out of it.
Just before we left I put a magazine downrange using Daughter's little Sig. I'm really lousy with anything under a 4" barrel.
And that was our day at the range. Daughter is going to come over next week so I can show her how to break down her pistol and clean it. Speaking of which, I've got three to clean myself.
Sorry I didn't keep accurate records today. I actually think I shot my "OG" XD9 a little better than the Mod3, but that's because I really love the SpeedSights on my first one. If I wasn't putting an optic on the Mod3, I would definitely upgrade the sights. That front fiber optic post is a bit thin and I really have to take care to get "equal height, equal light" on the sight picture. I just need more practice. (Oh boy!) It is, however, and excellent pistol, great price, a few upgrades over the original XD9 (including optic cut), and uses the same holsters and magazines. I hope @belladonna likes hers.
OK, that's it. I'm gonna clean a pistol or two then take Mrs. BassCliff out for Friday fish fry.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
