Greetings and salutations!
Yesterday I took only my two newest handguns to the newer Fletcher Arms facility for two reasons. One was to get the sights dialed in on both and the other was to check out their new target carrier system. On the way I noticed that this field does not have a corn crop in it like it had last summer. I hope and pray the farmer is still in business and the field is just fallow for a season.
I was assigned lane #9, my favorite lane! Actually, this lane hasn't worked for a year. I was the first customer.
The new carrier system uses this "clip-and-shoot" attachment for your targets. It's a $5 part but is reusable as long as you don't shoot it up. It works well with my paper targets and the reactive "shoot-n-see" targets.
The new basic controls are very straightforward, just touch the button. Next time I'll see what kind of programming scenarios we have available. It would be fun to have them flip around and move to different distances while you're shooting a string. Notice the target lights also.
My two new target pistols, Mark IV Target and XDM Elite Precision. I tweaked the sights just a little but I think I'll hold off on any more adjustments until I'm sure it's not the shooter.
I did not shoot the Blazer today, just 100 rounds of the AAC. It gave me no malfunctions. The Winchester Wildcat .22 gave me only one FTE during this session. I'll run through my targets quickly. I guess I was shooting too quickly too as my results were not as good as last week's for the most part. I'm still using 10 yards distance, 10 shot strings with the XDM.
Target #3 was pretty good. It looks like I got several hits in the same hole.
I put a dot in the middle of this #4 B-8 center hoping to see it better. I guess this is not terrible (8 hits in the 10 ring if you give me the line break) but I still had one bad flyer.
And the last of my 10 shot strings on B-8 targets, very average. I think I'm having too much fun.
I started taping up the wide hits then decided to get a picture of the "base" target. Next time I'll try to move that big ragged hole a little up and to the right.
I stuck on a reactive 8" circle and turned on the target light. My camera (new phone) made it look a little brighter than what it actually is.
I put 20 hits on this target and it came back looking like this. Drat, one flyer off the target.
Next I tried 20 hits on a small USPSA target. It came back looking like this.
For my last ten rounds through the XDM I tried an "aim small, miss small" 4" reactive circle. This was the very first hit of that string. Now, what can't I do that for all ten hits? (I think it's too much or too little trigger finger. Consistency! Ack!)
After the other nine hits it came back looking like this. Not terrible, I guess, but still with the usual flyer.
Then I started with the Mark IV. I'd shoot a magazine and then put a couple clicks on the rear sight.
I guess it's getting closer. As an experiment, I adjusted my front sight picture for the string below, holding the front sight below the line of the rear sight.
For this last string I actually adjusted my hold. Instead of a 6 o'clock hold on the red bullseye I put the 6 o'clock hold on the bottom of the 4" circle and wound up with this group.
POA and POI still don't seem to be the same. I'm sure it's me so the next time I get to the range I'll have one of the instructors put a few rounds through this pistol. Let's make sure the sights are in order. Otherwise, let's see what damage I did to the base target.
Another ragged hole. It's my aim (pun intended) to get that ragged hole a little smaller and better placed. Thanks for putting up with me. You guys are OK in my book.
I have another advanced defensive class on Monday. My XD9 will get a workout for that one. Until then, blessings to all.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
