Hi,
Yes, it's another long-winded, picture laden post from the old noob showing you his mediocre targets, dirty pistols, and the thinning bald spot on the back of his head. But wait! There's more! I actually practiced at the range twice this week and my middle daughter joined me the second day while my grandkids were in school. We had a blast.
Tuesday was a warm winter's day, 43° at the newer Fletcher Arms facility. (We'll go to the older facility tomorrow. It's a little closer.)
I was assigned lane #11, my favorite lane!
Today was a quick trip, planning to shoot only 50 rounds from each of these. I was warming up for tomorrow when I'll be meeting my daughter. I'm glad she didn't see me shoot today. Talk about a slump.
I shot from 10 yards for this whole session. As soon as I can score 100 on these B-8 targets I'll start pushing the distance out farther.
Since the range wasn't too busy I was able to run a couple of timed 10-10-10 drills. The first one was pretty lousy, with too many hits in the 7 ring. But the second drill was not too bad.
Only one hit out of the black but no 'X' hits. Even with a one second penalty I count 92 points under the par time. After 50 rounds through the XD9 I did 50 more through the Garrison. This was my best target.
None of the other targets were worth writing home about. But now I'm all warmed up for my session tomorrow. The next day I met my daughter at the older facility and took lane #3. My favorite lane!
Daughter has the cutest little Sig in .380.
It looks downright dinky next to my XD9 and Garrison.
Since Daughter hadn't practiced for a while we were going to use the short range, but all the booths were full. The RSO let us use the long range, where you're supposed to use a minimum of 30 feet, and fudge the distance a little. We started about 20 feet then pushed it out to 30 once she was warmed up.
We started with the larger silhouettes. Daughter actually shot pretty dang good despite it having been so long since her last trip to the range.
Here she is showing me up on my own XD9.
Daughter nabbed this picture of the old noob patching the target and sticking on some fun reactives. Daughter got a kick out of the shoot-n-see stuff.
We pushed this one out to 10 yards and I put some holes in it with my XD9. This was a pretty good one, six bulls and a few outliers.
Daughter uses my XD9 on the lower reactive.
Then I tried her Sig again. It's so cute!
Then she wanted to try the Garrison. Dang, but she's a pretty good shot. She flinched less than I usually do.
The recoil was a bit much for her. She had to take a break before finishing the magazine. But still, I was impressed. Then I tried to show off with my .45.
I guess I did some pretty good damage from 10 yards with my 10 round mag and one in the pipe. They're all in the general vicinity of the head.
Then Daughter wanted to shoot my little cowboy gun. I think this little revolver is a ton of fun to shoot. She did too. She did very well with it.
And there ya go! I sure had fun this week. I hope you did too. Daughter and son-in-law both promised to come over soon so we could all enjoy my basement laser range. SIL has a G17 among his arsenal and I have enough laser cartridges for all of us to have fun. We're going to have us a "pizza and pistols" night. It'll be grand.
OK, this is the old noob, signing off.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
