Hey folks!

I managed to make a quick trip to the closer of my two facilities. It was clouding up, but pretty windy, and snow is expected tonight. I got here rather late in the day, forgetting that the range closes at 4pm on Saturdays.

AP1GczOvEGGKVcNcW7oGxY1gmTKnMTjWH7T-ISooaKr3mJddqTKUue1TmFCX3TYxOUuntJLx_cyOCHfdB_ohePcjXWK4C3b5WqK93TXKMNxchnGZS8NWW4XZVGDJF4_8ouIg2MOQOvbHaY25aX2uuHdOdabojg=w1648-h927-s-no

The range wasn't busy at all so I scored my favorite lane, #10. I like it because I can easily line up the targets with the distance numbers on the wall. There are old school target carriers at this range.

AP1GczNBtRVQCNuckfxlJaxJ4FJYxwmvRLRfabBBY4C-RkKTXlYSatQPvmC_Ye5BJCgZ-EzNuMxI7ghBbenc0L6CpsS23afLHMg-f7NpuxSm0jhXhuKsgsqd2qxlMPXIAEn8h6rXyuYOHbRuxcDoGFJtznw06g=w1648-h927-s-no

I brought two of my long barreled "target" pistols today. I haven't shot these for a while. You see the XD-M Elite 5.25" Precision and Ruger Mark IV 5.5" Target. I was also planning a little practice with the VP9 and its new Speed Sights.

I started with the XD-M on a B-8 target at 10 yards, my standard procedure.

Target #1 came back like this after a 10-shot string. I guess that's not too bad considering it's been a while.

I taped on a new B-8 center. Please excuse the yellow X-ring. Blame it on my old eyes.

Now it's time to switch targets. We'll see how good I can do with this "Precision" pistol on the 1/3 size USPSA targets. Staying at 10 yards, target #5 came back like this.

I like the trigger on this XD-M. I meant to bring my Mantis-X. Next time. I'm going to switch targets again but first let me peel away all the other target layers and show you the original B-8.

OK, that's 70 rounds on this target. I guess I did a pretty good job chewing out the 10 ring. I like shooting 10-shot strings but it's good to see that I could make a big ragged hole if I wanted to. ;) My group was so tight that I could cover all 70 rounds with a single 8" reactive circle.

AP1GczNi5sjEA2ItIcjXhBcPVR8ZyRrqUqRXwaSi0f0_XSsIFRgv2WwC_F2_6p3bJhodiC5bc7GX3S7prLMMoKDuwe-oU3Rf_drxuy-9b7GLM7fENKyHAbSNDhlkpLIfNQZbc78PBUHGCWb5klcElIolOp8mTQ=w1648-h927-s-no

I'm just going to have a little fun now and practice at 15 yards.

I put a whole box in three magazines and put them all on this target. I didn't quite make the big ragged hole I was hoping for. I'll start practicing more at this distance and see how much I can improve.

AP1GczNkkVneUhIAb_-iwyHqcW6BPMfd5k_nrEBxDsK0auaniY3N3zCDOKPeRDkoUFeTNQ3wgQF4A3AgJV2ebcWUcUfTblGCeE3SS_8iAIZqrn8D9lLjQVx8FEt6pYi1-Y1pgrOi82pUEviPZIZFdB1MEPlMNA=w1648-h927-s-no

It was at this point that I was told the range would be closing at 5pm. I looked at my watch and thought, "Hmm, I've got an hour. That's plenty of time." So I sent another 8" reactive circle out to 15 yards and started on it with the Mark IV. It's been a minute since I've shot this pistol too.

AP1GczPbhXWTeibeTHvsdmlOifDZfS4xCdAJu23G8MSHBTLd6ZSIgbzM9EkQvTeSPLsqmYsjxGLwv_u29eGD9ONwuUgzm75vZAKhOHkGSuwRntjXhTkh515O5sYzexCywzJyLsi991DY80CucP5AuqbKdZbiJA=w1648-h927-s-no

I got through about two and a half magazines and the clerk was back saying the range was closed and it was time to pack up. Well drat. It turns out they close at 4pm on Saturday and the clerk had misspoke. Perhaps he meant to say "closing in 5 minutes" and it came out "closing at 5 o'clock". Who knows? I apologized and packed up my stuff as quickly as I could. I didn't even get to shoot my VP9. But that's OK. At least the mags are already loaded for next time.

I can shoot the Mark IV better than I did today. I just need to remember the proper hold and sight picture. I think I'll take this same bunch out next week and continue getting reacquainted. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for hanging out. Blessings to all.

Thank you for your indulgence,

HI,

Nice shooting, Brother!

You said the XDm trigger was nice. Is it factory or....?

Thanks! Yes, it's the factory trigger. I'd forgotten how much I like shooting this pistol. I noticed that it's been discontinued. I guess the Echelon took its place? I have one of those too. I'll take them out for a head-to-head one day. ;)

AP1GczPhwjb2k8ctaV66SommftrMTXbfhJn3YmXI-7P_Q17hj6HcOlfl_DknTpPRFEcoAAO_0qx9QcPAvwfeyuYwOgfOSrns-WI6k--6klysVwCRDTX6XXyWayhv83NK-yB0uR-zEZ-nt0LkMjGIeQligH9Gmg=w1648-h927-s-no

Here's target #6.

AP1GczOCabHtZLHTW7oCrTsKE4r_vtSVuuNJL5-wJHD0xvTBshRqq-SzsEWqfmW0vB0ZKBypHvGjrEjSX9kcmLNiD6ztWArhaabRrSSjUHCzNOkHPOcy3ui-llBmhosZSQBydhHnGEAt-hHD7LclPIfSQwTdgQ=w1648-h927-s-no

And now target #7 at 10 yards. I think I'm still using too much trigger finger. Hits are going slightly left.

AP1GczMicLEUfZZfrbmALNqEh7xypKvZNqxBLGueqfgqyBSemjCABlQRx-XAD4iFgwq8sfU557nzcsQEbxmyXVeUDbxfZKznMEEHAStkDJPuD9akWgd3VbMsLAl2285igdfpVVaZ-jOJbD1HcahSBL5cNt2lig=w1648-h927-s-no

I like the trigger on this XD-M. I meant to bring my Mantis-X. Next time. I'm going to switch targets again but first let me peel away all the other target layers and show you the original B-8.

AP1GczP5M-jS95yM9DN46SDvy3mM2maUCUSFXVyvaUTkTR2s6BJIb2Ej3S69ggUmQ0FOMaE1tlOwfsI03WQMeHaN9zIY0mGv9bGVvLF5hkHp5ojaDuaGMp_dERQvduxsGXpqaFuwIKRNxxCehKxFyHxKmCxV_A=w1648-h927-s-no

I'm just going to have a little fun now and practice at 15 yards.

AP1GczPy8SjVF9-RrZXHXS3aAIZ2gpxVAZtNTNXkIXdyIzrhODW9tBRe3VRtSloewa_xQfEBIvAXesMxbihoF-DLtc-gP4Rw6GklZWDj4KXCHLmHbOahMdGSsALiD-uoHzQB0wSA8Eao927KcrGtekrGulIQwg=w1648-h927-s-no

Hi,

the xdm is a 9 also? i have a 40 and 10 in the precision models that has never failed. looks like the xdm for the win! good shoot'n

Yes, my XDM Elite Precision is a 9mm. I've decided to concentrate on 9mm, .45ACP, and .22LR for pistols. For some reason I didn't want to have to stock too many different calibers of ammo. But I'm gettin' a hankerin' for 5.7 and 10mm. We'll see. ;)

Thank you for your indulgence,

Then I was out of my "yellow dot" B-8 centers. That's OK. I have a few yellow-ish stickers from my favorite breakfast place. They'll work just fine.
