Greetings ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, friends and neighbors, in-laws and outlaws,
Last week I had a little practice session with my XD9 and my .22 pistols. I started with a couple of lousy 10-10-10 drills but then settled down for some accuracy practice. I was slumping again but still trying hard to do everything right. Last week I brought out my XD9 along with the Heritage and the P22.
After the dismal 10-10-10 drills (I'm not even going to show you) I had a few average targets with my EDC XD9, shooting at 10 yards.
The A box is 2" x 3" on these small targets.
This is a 4" circle at ten yards. I got most of them on target.
Last for this session, I had some fun plinking at ten yards.
Then today I had even more fun! It was New Gun Day! I had been saving my gig money and wanted to get more of a target pistol in 9mm. I decided on the SA XD-M Elite Precision 5.25" match barrel, META trigger, three 22 round magazines, flared magwell, front fiber optic and rear adjustable sights, etc. You know the specs. I used the installed grip panel, which I guess is the "medium". The other two seem to be the small and large sizes. It also had two flat magazine bases that return the mags to 19 round capacity.
Here we are at the range with my little Springfield Armory, um, armory. XD-M Elite 5.25, XD9, Garrison 5" .45ACP.
I had originally planned to shoot 50 rounds of 124 grain Blazer Brass with the XD-M and 100 rounds of WWB with the XD9. But I was having so much fun I ran a couple of mags of WWB through the XD-M too, no problems. But the XD9 had a couple of FTEs with the WWB. This was my last box of WWB. I doubt I'll ever shoot it again. The LAX Ammo .45 was for the Garrison.
Here are the first ten shots using my new XD-M Elite Precision 5.25.
Yeah, I know, just "meh". But this shoots real nice. This is my second ten shot string. I got more hits in the 10 ring but still let a couple get into the 8 ring. (Line break?)
Then I stuck on an 8" reactive circle and sent a full magazine at it, plus a few. I think I need to adjust the rear sight a little. Really. It's not all me.
Here's a fresh 8" circle with 20 hits on it. I guess that's an OK group but I will give that rear sight one click to the left before I go back to the range.
Here are the first ten rounds with my XD9 for this session, still shooting at ten yards. Not so much left.
Here is ten more rounds at the same target. One of these days I'll make big, ragged holes.
Here is ten head shots with the XD9. I'm trying to "aim small, miss small".
I patched up that target and loaded up some WWB into my brand new XD-M Elite Precision. I haven't yet made any adjustment to the rear sight, just tried to adjust my aim a smidge.
Then I had a little fun with my Garrison. I shot it pretty good today. Ten hits near the bullseye.
I patched it up and got eight more hits near the bullseye with a couple of flyers.
OK, one more B-8 center to end the session. Not bad for this old noob, I guess.
And that's been my last couple of sessions. I'm going to give my XD-M rear sight one click to the left and see if it makes a difference next week. Actually, I'll take to down to my basement laser range for some dry fire practice so we can get to know each other. I'll need to order a couple of holsters, maybe a few more magazines, and whatever else I can think of. I think I'm really going to like this XD-M. Hopefully it will make me a better shooter. Thanks for coming along. God bless.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
