Range Trip Ruined

So I pack up my gear and guns and head up to the range. Brought 3 new guns with me I never shot as of yet. 8 am and already packed. So I sat in my truck sipping coffee and started watching for a bit and after what I was seeing I did not feel like being at the local PD being a witness to the stupidity I was watching. Mostly out of state vehicles were there so back home I went.

I hate that, I also hate when I'm going to the range and there's a group of guys in front of me that you can tell it's their first time to the range and the most experienced of the bunch is there his second time. I don't need to be around for the life lesson.

I had that happens years ago at a range in Lyons Il.
I posted my response on another forum and was accused of a racist.
I left as quickly as I could.

What was going on? Sucks you have to be the victim of others stupidity
In my case shooting at a Range in Lyons, Il. it was very busy and off to my right after a few shots I heard someone speaking Spanish and then a few more rounds being fired and then someone speaking Spanish, after a few more rounds I backed out of my stall and seen a line of Mexicans.
The first would fire a few rounds, hand the weapon to the person behind him and show him how to use it and it continued.
I quickly packed up and never returned.

Same thing happens at an outdoor rifle range run by the county here. You’re supposed to have a hunting license in order to use it but it gets swamped on the weekends by out of staters as well as yahoos that don’t know the first thing about gun safety (or really care). I do not go there.

My range is a private club, but we still have more than our fair share of idiots. Weekends are packed and stupidity abounds. Gotta keep your head on a swivel all the time. :(
I was so glad when I retired. Now I go in the middle of the week and in the middle of the day. Rarely more than one or two other people there and I often have the place all to myself. 😁

One of the greatest advantages of retirement.

weekends, and especially Holiday weekends, i stayed away from the public range i was a member of.

too many "horses asses" there for me to want to be any where's near the place.

my club???

totally different scenario. we follow rules the club has, no clowning around, no showing off.

as a retired person like myself, the very best times for the public range was mornings, monday thru friday, place is nearly a ghost town........

same way for the club.....i leave the weekends and holidays for the working people to go.

My range has two sides. One for members & then the public (pay) side. The range also has a crusty retired USMC guy to police/maintain things since he lives at the range. He's always busy on the public side when it's open.

Rules are posted on both sides, and the crap he has to deal with occurs on the public side.

Tuesday-Thursday the range is closed to the public except for members on their side, that's when I go.

Pistol bays, & several other individual bays out to 600 yds. on the member side.

We have a 1000 yd range but that has to be specifically reserved since it cuts thru the membership side other ranges.

A very wise move.

Pretty much the same at my club range. Range opens at 8:00AM and I have been by myself for weeks. Monday through Thursday is good.
