Reassembling TRP operator 6" 10mm

Can anybody please give some advice on reassembling this gun! The recoil spring plug is inserted inside the slide first. Recoil spring is then placed into the plug. The guide rod is then under very stout pressure and will not seat against the barrel link or link lug. It just slips off violently and shoots across room. Have owned 1911's all my life and currently own 10. Sent gun back to SA for reassembly. They returned it reassembled (all at no charge) with "no issues" marked on invoice. I can't believe I'm the only one having this problem. Have spent hours working with this gun.

If it was a Govt model, I’d say to get rid of that silly FLGR and put in a GI system as our Lord and Savior JMB made it.

As it's a 6”, not sure if that’s an option....but it might be worth researching.

I don't know if it helps you any but I also have a 1911 with a full length guide rod. I snapped some pics of how I reassemble. Hopefully they are in order.

I was about to reply to you that you are not alone, but my stubbornness (and that word took 3 tries to spell right) came to my rescue. So screw all those people that say it's a liability. Anyway, go to the video above, and start watching at 5:50 min. Notice how he compresses the spring and holds it down. While doing this, he makes one quick mention of flipping the barrel link up. But he does mention to grasp the slide and spring while putting it on the frame. The diagram on page 40 of your manual is completely wrong, and should be ignored.

What I wound up doing is first, place the slide in a vice, near the front of the slide. Next, I took a bore brush and stuck the threaded end through the barrel link, and let it drop forward and rest on the slide. Take a magic marker and mark the side of the spring guide that is directly opposite the flat side of the guide head. Now comes the fun part. Feed the spring into the plug insuring that the spring does not buckle on you. I used a flat piece of metal to feed as much as I could into the plug. Hold the spring in place with one hand, while the other compresses the rest of the spring using the guide, being mindful of the mark you put on the guide. Once the guide is in position, hold the spring and guide in position and remove the bore brush from the barrel link. You may now put the frame on the slide, and remove the assembly from the vice. Turn the pistol upright and install the slide stop.

Watch the video again, and good luck.
