Well, at the time I got my Hellcat there was only 1 or 2 RDS's available for it. I chose the Shield SMSc since the Wasp wasn't even available at the time, and I can't remember the only other RDS that was available as a direct mount. It was a little more expensive than others, and I was determined to not modify my gun by grinding locating posts of my slide and/or using a mounting plate. I've been using the SMSc for a couple years now with no regrets.
After the Wasp became available, I chose to buy one just to have in the event my SMSc went south for some reason and since the Wasp had been made especially for the Hellcat. Well, so far that hasn't happened, so I have the Wasp sitting on top of my dresser just taking up space. I installed the battery back in late Dec. 2021 since I was seeing so many reported issues with battery life, and so far-so good. Keeping in mind my Wasp was an early version that didn't seem to have the issues of the later ones, it doesn't seem to have the same battery issue as the later models. The jury is still out on it's longevity.
As for looks, I like one about the same as the other ..... they both have their good points and bad points. As for dependability, the SMSc has been flawless since it was installed a couple years ago and the gun has at least a couple thousand rounds through it now. I've decided to not replace the battery until it dies just to have a benchmark on ultimate battery life for the future. Once I do replace it, I'll have an idea of the extreme battery life, but will make a point to replace it yearly when I do my smoke detectors and truck remote FOB's.
I can't vouch for the Wasp toughness since it's not yet been mounted on any gun, but it does have some respectable specs ..... and actually looks pretty substantial. I'm also watching the battery life for future info.
So, there ya' are, the best I can offer. I can't say one bad thing about the SMSc or the Wasp. The SMSc is a little more expensive, but like I said it's been flawless and it's tough, really tough, tested tough. The Wasp is less expensive, just as good looking, and is probably just as tough.
So as the old saying goes ...... Ya' pays ya' money and ya' takes ya' chances !!! Good luck.
