Rental guns

Long ago and far away auto dealers used to rent cars in part so people could try them out. Your car broke down and need wheels? Try this. Same with demonstrators.
I see Gun rentals the same way.
I have often tried to rent different guns to see if I liked it. Would I buy one? I don't rent guns just to shoot.
I went to a local shop and the sights were loose. Gun was in overall poor shape. Why would I want to buy one?

Have you ever bought a pistol or rifle from a rental fleet? What did you think?

I have a local Gun shop & Indoor range , That has alot of rental guns even full auto 5.56 . They also do rep. days like last month they had the Spring field rep there with free rentals on all their guns . Last week was the Glock rep.. I have never seen them offer any of their rental guns for sale . And no I wouldn't buy one either . Just my 2 cents .

no, i do not buy used rental guns. i have bought new-never used guns, from people that i know.

the rental guns are abused, much like rental trucks, and many times cars.

you take your chances buying from rentals.

the benefit of renting as you know, is to try a gun that you might want to buy....NEW

so just cuz a sight fell off, does not mean the NEW one you buy will have that problem.

let's not forget, that new shooters may not know recoil, or get hot brass down thier shirt, so they panic, and maybe drop that gun......

I've bought rental models--at STEEP discounts.

Never an issue.

In fact, one of them--a FNX .45 (paid $300 for it)--is my dedicated vehicle pistol in my GTFOD vehicle.

Seriously--you REALLY have to abuse the ever-living (expletive of your choice here--either copulatory or scatalogical) of a modern pistol design to truly damage it beyond function.

I know, I've tried.

I do not disagree but it speaks to how they maintain the rental guns.

If you came to my store you would find nice well maintained guns to try. But it's easy to say since I don't own or operate such store.

that Is easy to say. but, you'd have to either assign an employee to take care of the rentals, or do it yourself. i have personally seen the range i go to, an employee (and it's not always the same one), just pull back the slide, and spray some CLP, then return it to the showcase.

when i rented 2 guns to try before i bought, i cannot tell you the number of jams or failure to feed issues.

so you really can not say, "you would find nice well maintained guns"...in your store. (if you had a store)

unless you only had ONE gun to rent.....but the range i go to..?? there are like 30 guns to rent........so NO time for a proper cleaning and lubing.

the old saying, "if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself", and as a store owner?

I need to find one of the factory sponsored events mentioned earlier in this thread.
One of the local stores has a Try it before you buy it for some guns, but its the store with the poor quality guns.
Maybe that's what I need though, the see how the gun with weather time and abuse.

Just buy one, dig a hole in the dirt, throw your gun in the hole chamber open with a loaded mag separate. Then burry it. Stand on top of it. Then dig it out and load it. If it runs then you know you have a worthy firearm.
